Hole in the wall gas fire

Anyone had one fitted with a balanced flue and recessed into an outside wall? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I have fitted a balanced flue system in my front room using an Exhausto" fan system but the fan box fits to the outside of the wall being too big to recess in. That was some years ago so maybe fan boxes have got a bit smaller now. However, the outside box is easy for maintenance.

I have a control box on the inside wall. Switch the fan on (red light comes on), wait for the pressure to equalise (green light), press the "No gas" button (orange light comes on), light fire and Robert is your father's brother! If you get a pressure drop on the outside or a pressure increase on the inside (rare but can happen with a strong gust of wind) the orange light goes out and the fire turns off automatically.

Having typed all this it I realise it is probably nothing to do with your question! Very Happy John

Not fan assist and it's a flush fit to an outside wall hole in the wall gas fire.
Some of them are huge.
They are quite a recent design. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

A cheaper version is to buy a DVD of a fire and play it on the tv, gives you a warmed up effect using zero fuel, surprising really. Thumbs Up

or wait and see if sky put the log fire in the "on demand section" and enjoy in HD! Thumbs Up

I'm not sure what type of fire you mean but this is my experience, apologies if its not relevant! Embarassed
my house isn't very old so has no chimney breast, just a metal duct / flue running up the cavity venting through a ridge tile on the roof.
when i bought the house it had the original freestanding gas fire standing infront of the surround, i managed to have a new surround with shallow recessed fire installed, the blocks behind my fire are curved inwards towards the cavity to allow room for a recessed fire to be fitted, that combined with the added depth of the surround allows most fires to fit.
unfortunately i believe i cant have a woodburner with my type of flue it the moment Big Cry

we had a Nuflame balanced flue fire fitted last year to replace a fan type balanced flue Trident fire which was too unreliable.

this new one has been great so far.

Iain

ps we find a big difference with no noisy fan
