2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Zermatt Silver
Supraguarded the car yesterday

Rather than line the dealers pockets I did it myself for a tenner. We've had the car just two weeks and 380 miles. It took just two hours to:

1. Take the car through the local touchless car wash to get the majority of the muck off
2. Two washes with Autoglym Car Shampoo.
3. Dried with clothes
4. Scrubbed the alloys as clean as I could
5. Punctured the "Supraguard 100plus" pad and applied the 'polish'
6. Sprayed the alloys liberally - and I do mean liberally!
7. After 20 minutes polished off the dried residue on the car
8. Rubbed off the excess cream on the alloys

Looks well smart now.

Just need to clean the interior and then I can spray the carpets New: Freelander2 GS 62 plate (MY13) - Santorini Black with Clearview & Front PDC

Have to say I had this done to mine when new and in hindsight it's a complete waste of money. As soon as the car paintwork is chipped (unless you have the 'stuff' to recoat) the Supragard protection is broken, and it doesn't seem to last. Much better to give the car a coat of good quality polish once or twice a year and regular washing. On the plus side you do get a rather nice 'complimentary' emergency kit though courtesy of Supragard

Don't want to appear pedantic, but polish does not protect paint work, it just removes a small amount of it.

A coating of wax is required to protect it.

....I'll get my coat. garioch43

Yes garioch you are right in your thinking, polish does remove a layer, wax or sealer is really needed, I use nothing but Werkstat Acylic Jett on my car, it was superguarded from new and gets a coating of Jett whenever I can, takes 30-40 minutes to go around the whole car and it shines likes nothing else I have seen before.
Its not cheap but well worth it IMHO Thumbs Up

This car had done about 38k miles when this was taken and has never had anything other than Acylic Jett applied, washed with snowfoam, pressure washed and lambswool mitt, that really needs throwing as its now minging.

garioch43 - yes you are being pedantic Smile

you are talking about the act of polishing which by definition is

1. to make smooth and glossy, e.g. by rubbing or friction
2. to render finished, refined, or elegant

So surely this includes the application of Surpragard by ‘polishing’.

In my case I 'polish' my car with Autoglym Super Resin Polish which certainly isn't abrasive. Maybe you can tell me where I can purchase car 'wax', since I've not seen this around for years!

Autoglym SRP, certainly IS abrasive, it is a cleaner and a wax all in one product.

Supagard is NOT a polish, it is a sealant, it fills the microscopic pores on the paint surface to leave a smoother, glossier surface, "polish" on the other hand has abrasive components that seek to achieve the gloss by taking away the peaks of this microscopic surface and render it more smooth.

Wax can be bought from many places, http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/na...waxes.html , that being just one, other detailing outlets are available Laughing

I use the Acrylic polymer stuff because its much much easier, waxing is a chore and IMHO the end result is very similiar, possibly better with the sealants.

I think we both are correct on this one AutoGlym SRP is both SLIGHTLY abrasive and a sealant

Thing about supaguard is that it is all in the preparation and application. It may only cost a tenner to buy the sealer from a certain Internet auction site but to apply it properly should take at least a day to wash, clay, polish and seal the paint. Problem is that most dealers get the spotty car washers on minimum wage to do it and ruin your paint at the same time.

In my experience supaguard does leave a pretty good finish and lasts at least a year but I don't I think you can beat the application of a good wax every 6months Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints
