Am I the only one to remember lines of lorries stuck at the side of the road in freezing days in winter with their drivers burning little fires underneath to get the diesel flowing again? The problem then seemed to be the diesel was in pipes exposed to air flow and better design has given them more protection. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. I remember them Thumbs Up

Years ago we would run with a gallon of petrol to every 30 gallons of diesel, also used Antifreeze, about half a pint per 30 gallons of diesel, just had to drain the water trap every day as the Antifreeze would collect in it. But haven't had to add anything for the twenty years, found that the modern vehicles are much more resilient to cold weather, fuel lines are shielded from the elements more, filters are located in warmer areas, normally the gauze in the sediment filter used to be the location of the waxing, other things like not having a partial tank of fuel overnight, always make sure it is topped up every night, condensation on the inside of the tank is thought to contribute to the problem.

Those days are long gone. The only thing to worry about are the supermarkets. They have been known to use summer diesel in winter as it is cheaper to buy at this time of year.

But at worse, your fuel filter will crap up sooner than normal. We don't get enough of the extreme weather needed to cause an issue.

V-Power and BP Ultimate won't make a difference directly, but where it will help is that is helps to maintain a clean fuel system and injectors etc. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I don't think that would affect waxing. However it might put water into the fuel, which would freeze in the filter/sedimenter, causing the same problem.
Waxing shouldn't occur nowadays once the engine has been running, as the high-pressure fuel system returns hot fuel to the tank - that's why fuel coolers are needed.

So a build up of condensation in the tank won't collect as water in the bottom of the tank, get pulled through the fuel lines and freeze then.

Is there a separation device in the system to expel water, or does it simply accumulate over time? I imagine quite an amount of condensate could be present in the tank in this case.

When I was in the farming world,we were always told to fill up the Dieasal tank at the end of each day, to prevent the build up of condensation, thus preventing water build up in the tank

Traditionally the tank drain was not in the very bottom, so water and stuff in the bottom would not be drawn through. Don't know if this is the case in the FR2. Now that all vehicles have plastic tanks, I suspect the condensation problem is lessened. Also no rust particles to clog up the filter!
