yes car may shut down all electrics preventing key fob from working, ensure you leave access to the passenger front door in order to use the mechanical emergency key, The car will re awake when you place fob in hole and start engine At work
At home

It can do if the battery voltage drops too far. It's not a problem so long as you can get in the front passenger door using the mechanical lock - docking the key should stop the alarm (which will sound when you open the door) and reset everything to normal.

As an alternative, leave a smart charger (not an ordinary one) connected to the battery whilst the car is laid up. CTEK are highly regarded hereabouts, but I don't have one myself so can't comment further.

There's a long thread here http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic13457.html?highlight=sleep+mode that talks about this very issue.
CG's post tells you what you must do to ensure you can get back in to it.
I would also suggest that you leave it on a battery trickle charger if possible.

What genius thought it was a good idea for the alarm to sound if you unlock the door with the key? I found that out when my fob went on the blink. On every other car I have owned, using the key was as good as using the remote....but then again the lock was on the driver door not the passenger.

Mine did it early on in our relationship! I went away for a month three days after buying it and came back to a car without access to the interior. I could see the alarm light flashing as usual, so I knew it still had electrics but the fob wouldn't unlock the doors or tailgate.
I also knew about the passenger lock access but bottled it when I had to put worrying amounts of force on the key without anything happening. Eventually the AA man "after a call to LR assist" came out and had to use a pair of pliers on the key to get it to turn. He said it was typical to have to put that much force on it and mentioned Mercs being worse.

Since then I've gone for 17 days at a time without use and still retained use of the key fob. Someone mentioned 3 weeks being the shut off time when the vehicle begins to shut down.

If you have never tried to open the passenger door with the 'metal key' I would recommend anyone tries it at least once, as it was surprising and a little disconcerting, just how much force was needed to open the lock, although it does open easier now! Thumbs Up

You're right, it's something that ought to be done once and I'll give it a go in a quiet place just to prove that it will unlock.
In fact I ought to try out the 'wrong fuel' device reset tool as well, I read it once from the manual but don't really remember how to reset that, I believe I last saw that tool in the boot somewhere.

Just been running a Range Rover Sport as a courtesy car whilst the Freelander was in for warranty work.

When putting fuel in it would only fill drop by drop. Was't aware of the wrong fuel device and there was no manual with the car.

Asked at the dealer when car returned and was shown the yellow tool in the boot and how to use it.

Apparently the flap on the device can drop of its own (??????)
