when you stalled you may have got crap into the DPF when the exhaust flooded explaining the messy smoke?

With the new kandn, it may be the case that now you have more air flowing past the MAF, that it is pumping in more fuel to match?

(the above are only suggestions and in no way should be taken as heresay)

If you do have a problem with your rings, you will know about it, diesel will start to flow past and into the sump, keep an eye on your oil level over the next week, if it goes up, then its a first indicator that there is a problem in the cylender.

Had no problem the other day when I used a tarp to cover the front grill in water going just up to the front of the bonnet. I wouldn't want to do it very often though!

Found this the other day from a review of the eD4 2WD freelander! On cnet, along with the following quote.

"We even drove it through a 70ft stretch of bonnet-high water and it didn't give us the merest hint that it might get stuck -- it simply got on with the task at hand"

Wading at or near the maximum depth can also eventually take out the starter motor as I found to my cost about 2 months after the Bala Day Out.
Service manger informed me that it was completely cream crackered and still had water in it.

So be careful out there.

The 2WD Landie has water almost up to its tyre tops - that's about 28" - a lot more than the 20" limit...

I crossed a longish ford on a green laning trip last weekend not quite as deep, maybe 26" - nothing bad to report (so far). I reckon LR are a little conservative about that 20"

If memory serves me right, the specification for the wading depth was dunk her in water, leave her there for a specific number of hours (can't remember how many), an she should start and drive out.

hmm - that sounds like a pretty tough test - I wouldn't haver fancied sitting in the middle of the ford for an hour!

That said, she did go through no probs, so in practice think we have a bit of leeway on the 20" limit, without having to invest in a Disco 3

Agree about the mud though - nearly got stuck earlier in the day in a v muddy but not so deep water crossing - I did get through OK but a std Defender got a bit stuck... so there you go

He will be sorry that he did that in couple of moths time when the starter motor packs up as all its internals have corroded away as mine did after as similar incident.
You would think that Land Rover would fit a sealed motor on an "Off road" vehicle.

I had wondered about the starter motor and alternator. Look very vulnerable to me and no obvious protection!
That said I had no problems after that off-road day at Bala apart from a pretty bent up heat shield (I think it was that floating log what done it). Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
