The forecasters are hereby calling a very cold winter that will break records which means we will no doubt get the opposite: http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/358717...ars-on-way

But surely you want a safe, mild winter so you will not be needed to help out others who would be unable to get to work etc. |

Erm... No! Even if I drove a BMW 3 series on summer tyres I would still like it to be cold and snowy. I just love the stuff but I do accept the negatives for elderly etc and the dangers. That's why I put the 4x4 abilities to good use with the voluntary work should it be bad. The fact is that no amount of hoping for a cold winter or a mild winter is going to make any difference. The express ran a similar story in October. Apparently according to the comments on the express website back then they had ran 150 headlines this year of which 110 were weather related. Take what they say with a pinch of salt!! Although I think personally we will be in for a bad winter. Still, the weather will do what it does, we cant change it! lol |

There is one thing in your favour "Doc", lots and lots of berries about. Apparently this means a harsh winter coming |

Yes, I read a story recently about some old biddy from the Scottish Highlands who said that the trees in the Cairngorm area never fail to predict winter outcomes. She said that if it snows in the Cairngorms very early which it did late September into early October and there are lots of berries on the trees, of which there are tonnes apparently this year, then it means a harsh winter is on the way. Other factors mooted include a rapid increase in snow across Russia and Scandinavia recently and the extent of the Arctic ice melt this summer. The sea temps are quite cold too which is a sign of a bad winter apparently. Only time will tell... LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby LOT (Lord of Time) - University of Gallifrey |

I'm with wizking on this last year the berries on our Pyracantha hedge was being consumed in November, this year the birds are not interested in them, going for a harsh one, may not mean snow just ![]() |

Not bothered either way, chances are I will be driving a 2wd drive car very soon. As it is now if it snows I don't need to go anywhere |
