My next wheels

Still unsure on what to do car wise, mine has 94'000 on the clock now, I feel it's time to get rid. My issue is what do I buy next? I don't have a great deal of money and want something that is better on fuel. Been thinking of Saab 9-3 estate, anyone had one of these? Any good? Or any other suggestions, I want an estate car with low miles and good mpg. Max budget would be 10k

Cheers

the 93's are pretty decent 1.9tdi i think so still quite nippy, however not sure whether you should leave us Neutral When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car

Always the same problem, when to change? The last six vehicles we've had (Honda Accord, Mitsubishi Pajero X 3, BMW 530 estate, Fiesta 1.25 - all automatics) have all comfortably exceeded 100,000 miles. If you still like the car and it's running well and not costing money regularly to keep on the road, I'd say hang on to it. Changing is always expensive and is absolutely no guarantee to land you in a better position. You'll need to save a heck of a lot of fuel to make up for a £10k outlay. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

Buy a warranty and keep it, as rjc said 10k is a lot of outlay

...as taz and rjc said there is almost no saving if you change the car just to get better MPG.....and as the 9-3 is quite decent car in fact its just restyled Vectra which is a little downgrading from FL2.... Wink

I had a Honda Accord top-of-the-range 2-litre auto, swapped it for a Pajero to go caravanning and found I loved the whole 4*4 experience, particularly the driving position, solidity and ease of access. Had three of these then couldn't resist a "good buy" on a 530d Beemer estate. It was like driving round with my a"£$e on the floor, hard to get into and exit from when compared to the Mitsubishis. I kept it for a year but as soon as we got to Cornwall and had a bit of spare cash went back to the off-roaders with the FL2. No more "ordinary" cars for me!

depends on what space you need.. I would stay away from the Saab myself mate.. the volvo V70 diesel is really really fuel efficient. I get 7.6l/100km on the LR2 at best out of a tank, my neighbour gets 4.6L/100k out of his volvo estate, with leather and all the flashy ipod connectivity etc.

We also have a 2012 passat that runs on biogas, I know its not so common back home but the savings are pretty massive.. it has a touch screen majiggy and is really nice to drive, but I really hate driving it at night with a passion simply becasue of other cars headlights, especially ones from behind.

Looking for something fun? how about a Nissan Z car? something rear wheel drive, then get a bmw 1 series? Something that isnt a Landrover... well the XC60 is the expensive option, with what has to be the most comfertable seats around.. how about a Kia? they make a sweet little awd suv thing with a crazy 7 year warranty?

It depends on what you want to drive and how you want to drive it.. give us a few more ideas!

9 was being generous!

I just think its time for it to go before it gets to the 100k mark, chances are I will prob kep it till march. Then reconsider, maybe a mondeo estate could be an option. Looked at vw/Audi but they hold there price more than other brands. Not after anything fun really, cycling is main passion ATM, must be a comfortable car for a few trips to the alps next year.

1 series is too small for me

I most defo not be buying a Kia, I also dislike the Volvo interiors.

Bloke at work runs Saabs he has 4 of them, 2 very old classics and 2 newer ones

He rates them highly, says the lower powered ones are exactly the same as the high powered ones just a different ecu map

March may be a bad time to offload a 4x4, better approaching winter than coming out I would have thought.

Stay away from Korean stuff, its built for a purpose, to feed the motherland, I should know Thumbs Up

Mondeo? 2.2 diesel with all the trimmings? Good to drive, massively underrated and frugal.

Insignia estate?

Octavia/superb estate?

Alfa 159 estate?

Seat exeo estate? Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
