Does HDC work in 'D'?

I may have scanned the manual once but have long since forgotten and can't be bothered to go fetch it and read.

So, if HDC is deployed in the auto, does it work in 'D' or would I need to put it in commandshift and 1st gear or even 2nd if slightly faster speed is needed? (heard it works in 2nd too)
