Dual-mass flywheel

The diesel engine has a dual-mass flywheel. The ones on the diesel engines fitted in the Mondeos caused problems. (13/10/07 Voluntary Recall letter to Mondeo owners of TDDIs and TDCIs to replace faulty dual mass flywheels). SOURCE:Daily Telegraph, Honest John section. Is this something we need to be aware of, or is the Freelander 2 engine completely different?
UPDATE:
The Freelander 2 diesel engine is a result of the co-operative agreement between the Ford Motor Company and PSA Peugeot Citroën http://media.ford.com/products/presskit_di...ake_id=625

I do not believe Ford currently have the Peugeot (nice try Rover60) unit has used in F/L2 in service. Funny things DMFs, you would have thought there would be more effective ways of getting rid of those nasty vibrations. still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

I think rover60 is right. The Freelander 2.2 diesel was developed together by Ford/Peugeot/Citroen but instead of using two small turbines, on the Freelander 2 engine there is only one turbine in order to obtain more torque (although a little bit less HP).
When Peugeot and Citroen will launch their SUV (4007 & C-Crosser) they will have the 2.2 diesel but with the two turbines (I think they will only get someting arround 360Nm- not sure if the figure is correct).
Also it seems Mitsubidhi Outlander will get the same similar engine as the ones fitted on the 4007 & C-Crosser. FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER

I was told during one of my LandRover Experience outings that our beloved FL2 has the dual mass flywheel. This is the achiles heel of the car when off road and is one of the reasons the auto version is the better off road car. Low speed control in manual (below the speed of engine tickover in first gear) can only be achieved by slipping the clutch. DMFW's take even less kindly to clutch slipping than ordinary clutches. I can say from my own experience that it takes surprisingly little slippage to warm the clutch up and get it 'smelling'. So far (34kmiles) have not experienced any issues with the clutch on road. Although recently have noticed small amount of judder when cold, no matter how gently the clutch is used. I know clutch judder can be an indication of DMFW problems so will be keeping an eye on this.

I thought I had an issue with this as I thought I was getting some clutch slip at 24000 miles. The dealers are unable to replicate the fault and have told me tha the clutch is now covered by an unlimited mileage 3 year warranty, not sure if I believe them though. Question Question

I have had two DMFW's replaced in a 20K mile VW Touran, both replaced because of clutch judder when cold. It seems to effect heavier vehicles with smaller diesel engines, but I thought it was a VAG problem, knowing 2.0 TDi Touran and Audi A4 to be affected, so a bit shocked to see your post.

So p***ed off with manufactures, pandering to marketing, needing a smoother diesel experience, and binning reliability to get it. Sad Also happy I went for the auto now.

I would assume that the D2 does not have the dual mass flywheel. Might be wrong.
I understand that Mitsubishi is now changing from their VW sourced diesel to the PSA one. Same as ours but with twin turbo which means a bit of less torque and a bit more HP. The Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser will have the same engine and more or less the same look like the Outlander.
I know that these are not real off-roaders but Mitsubishi has experience in building off roaders so the fact they are going for the same kind of duall-mass flywheel engine should say that this ideea is not that bad. It might just be a problem of early dual mass flywheel engine problem and that the initial problems have been sorted out. FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER
