I, too, had a Forester before the FL2. It wouldn't be fair to compare them, though, as the Forester had all-year tyres whilst I've invested in proper winter tyres for the FL2 so I'm expecting it to be much better in the snow. Winter conditions here in the Pennines are nowhere near as bad as Canada, but I can get snowed in for days at a time due to the steep slope which leads from the house up to the road. I'm hoping the FL2 on winter tyres will be able to get up it in anything other than the most extreme conditions!

Here in Quebec province the law requires you to have winter tires on your car from december 15 to march 15... I did install a set of Michelin X-ice on the Lr2. Should be a fun ride in the snow. 1973 Land Rover Series 3 88''

Winter tyres are a requirement in much of Europe too, but not here in the UK. Which is why the UK grinds to a halt in conditions which the Scandinavians would think nothing of! But such conditions are so rare in the UK that I think a winter tyre law would be over-kill for most of the country.

Found this video guys and the difference is even more astonishing than I imagined. I am glad I invested in the winter tyres now, especially if I have to bring the 2 tonne FL2 to a stop promptly!

Of course the biggest worry is those that have winter tyres can stop quicker, those that don't, crash in the back of those that do. For safe roads we need everyone to have them, or no one!!

.... and on the flip side, if everyone had winter tyres all would be over confident with caution thrown out of the window. Speeds would increase in dangerous conditions and we would all be back to square one thinking we are invincible.

I would sooner the car reminded me of the conditions by a little twitch now and then, causing me to be more aware of the conditions outside of my nice warm cabin and adjust my driving to that.

It amuses me that everyone that has purchased 'winter' tyres are the ones that are shouting "I can't wait for snow to arrive". Is that the reason for purchasing them Question too play, to be smug, to put your finger up to BMW drivers. I would have thought the real reason should be to enable you to get from A to B, a journey that is unavoidable, not an excuse to go and play and add to the confusion in slippery conditions.

Give me some welly Laughing

Not if you live in the sticks. Around here you can be the only car within half a mile when it's not snowing. And most (not all unfortunately) people know to keep their distance.

Not in my case. I'm not hoping for snow - it causes too many other problems, and is dangerous to drive on whatever tyres you have. But the reality is that we have significant snow here pretty much every winter, and the tyres are about keeping mobile and keeping safe.

I must echo EYorkshires post. Even though I have this car, I only venture out in the snow if essential. Because of the misery it causes others I hope we stay snow free. I do find it strange to hear people wishing for bad weather!!

actually, everyone on winter tyres here is nice, there are the idiots that will drive around as expected, but people know that they dont give the car superpowers, they wont work as well as a summer tyre in the dry, and people drive accordingly.

The nicest thing about winter tyres?, nobody loosing it in the opposite lane and making their way into a head on collision
