Here's one for the winter tyre users - particularly those with the Avon Ranger Ice.

Earlier in the year I acquired, via the forum, a set of the aforementioned Avon Ice tyres, 235/65 R 17, and have just fitted them to the car. I have been unable to find any specific tyre pressure information for them, so I'm wondering, should one run them at the same pressures as 'normal' tyres? Or something lower? What do others with the Avons do?

Tyre pressures are dictated by the manufacturer of the vehicle not by the tyre maker who only puts the maximum pressure allowed on the tyre.
So if you have not varied away from recommended sizes and loadings then it would be the same pressure as dictated on the door plate. It's only the tread compound that has altered.

And as usual you can't always trust the garages. We bought a set of tires [sic] for a Chevy in the States. The supplier said they should be run at slightly higher pressures than normal, the Chevy service specialist then set them all to the max pressure printed on the tyre! Not to be recommended!

When I was 17 I noticed my Mini's front tyres were looking a bit flat, went to Tesco Garage, but the air hoses gun gauge was busted, so just filled them until they looked "full" ...

Once I got home I checked the pressure (as the steering was very light) and they we both reading 80PSI .... god knows how they didn't blow out ....
