When do you change your tyres?

I seem to be down to around 4mm having done 20k in my MY11 FL2.

When do you usually change your tyres on your FL2?

Fleet cars are changed at 2mm, which in my opinion is too low, I wouldnt let them go down below 3mm, but then this is too low for mud and snow use.
Generally 3mm though minimum or you risk getting aquaplaning on the motorway at high speeds.

The law says 1.6mm. However wet grip will deteriorate from 3mm or so. I would change when the worst one is nearing 2mm. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

And the next question of course is what for?

The current tyres are the OE Continental in 235/65/17. Daily commute is 40 miles of mainly dual carriageway and usage is basically all on-road.

Tbh there are enough threads on what, I am interested in who/where from as I figure there may be some places that are better for Land Rover/offroad vehicle tyres than the main online sites.

Take a look at the General UHP, very popular road tyre that seems to work well on the F2.

Happy to help with tyre choice if I can. Thumbs Up

Yesterday morning we had 2 D3's, 1 D4, 2 R/Rovers, 1 Freelander, 1 Showgun Sport and a RRSport waiting for tyres, we seem to see nothing but L/R vehicles these days, knackered by 1pm though. Andy.

They shouldn't wear out as quickly as that, surely Twisted Evil Whistle

3mm is about right, I think - unless you live in an area plagued by snow or use the beast off-road, in which case 4mm would be better. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

ive got general grabber A/Ts all round and will shortly be due 2 front tyres, in the past people have always rotated tyres, now it is recommended that the new or best tyres are on the rear of the vehicle, is this just for 4x4's that are rear wheel drive during normal driving unless 4WD is selected? unlike landrovers that are permanent 4WD?

My contact hire company insist on 2mm, which can get pretty hairy when you hit standing water on a dual carriageway.

I would replace at 3mm, without a shadow of a doubt.

Mine Continentals usually take around 25,000 miles to reach 2mm.

I have never run less than 4mm... The legal limit here is 1.6mm in summer and 3mm in winter.. I dont know how anyone can let their tyres get that bad though.

Heres a video to watch and just think about for a second... (Warning some people may find it disturbing, there is no blood etc, but the video shows a car dissapearing into pieces after sliding into oncoming traffic)

You really can put a price on the life of your loved ones and others on the road.

The sad thing is here in the UK, there would have been three other cars in the gap between the car with the camera and the SUV that was trashed.

Just changed my tyres yesterday at 4mm, I have had 40k out of them so cant complain, and like tigger have started to feel it aquaplaning at speed, anyone who thinks its a waste, good luck to you.
