2007 with 69k - Potential Issues

Hello everyone

Later today I'm viewing a 2007 plate Freelander 2 HSE with approx 69k on the clock (auto-box).

The ad states its got a full service history but I'd just like to be knowledgable to what services it should actually have had and any specific fluid changes as well.

Assuming the serivce stacks up are there any other weak points on these or specific things I should look out for?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, Welcome to the forum

The only fluids other than the oil changes (service schedules is 15,000 miles or 12 months) would be to make sure the brake fluid has been done at three years. All other fluids are at a 10 year change.

The biggest worry for an auto is a slip/flare problem http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic6545.html
Also make sure all software updates have been done, and one big worry for early 2007 autos is the camshaft snapping where it drives the fuel pump, link is here http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic10702.html although confusingly it is more prevalent in the Eastern European market where some has put it down to 'bad' fuel but no concrete evidence. All that is known is Landrover came out with a modified camshaft after 2007.

There also seem to be quite a few rear diff bearing failures and this can happen at any time (from within months of being new to not at all). Listen for a 'whine' from the rear axle but don't confuse it with some tyres that will also produce a 'whine' (my wranglers were bad at 30mph whereas the Pirellis I have are quiet)

Ensure the fob unlocks and locks correctly, paying attention to the rear hatch door, it can suffer from water ingress.

Another is some have had steering rack failures, listen out for a noisy pump when you go lock to lock test.

Does it have a warranty or is it a private sale? If private you could consider a landrover warranty for a year, just in case.

Thanks for the info, it is a dealer sale though not an authorised LR dealer.
