Shame we can't have them :'( When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car

Been there and done that on my old Disco. The school run was a laugh fending off all the angry mums!

Why can't we? Construction and use regulations A Land Rover owner since 1988

Sorry, but please consider the effect of bolting stainless steel tubes to the front of your Freelander if you were to hit an unfortunate pedestrian Sad

I thought (hoped) we'd seen the end of these wretched things.

Totally agree with Tigger, dammed things should outlawed.
Downright dangerous. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

France 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Narvik Black

Can't say they are my cup of tea. However, as far as banning goes, it has already been done. These appear to carry an "E" mark indicating they meet standards and nowhere in the ad (that I saw) does it say "for off road use only". Looking at the way they are mounted it seems they would just bend back into the grille at the slightest provocation. John

You're right there, it probably would fold back at the slightest provocation. Unfortunately, whether they fold or not is largely immaterial to a pedestrian; it's the presence of rigid steel tubing in the likely impact area that's likely to main or kill. If it is so flimsily mounted that it's likely to fold back on impact then it is no use for its primary purpose and remains just a dangerous ornament.

If I actually need to protect my car from wandering cows when crossing the wide open Outback or Prairies of Sutton Coldfield ( Rolling Eyes ), while killing the minimum number of pedestrians, then I'd be choosing one of these:

A solid mounted tubular bar makes sense in Australia where you are very likely to hit a kangaroo jumping out in front of you - some of the big ones would still destroy the front of most cars even with one fitted.

But in Europe you are far more likely to hit a child - so soft nudge bars make more sense. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Quite easy in Cornwall what with the narrow country roads, high granite stone hedging and no foot-ways. Whistle
