Smoky Joe and the Diff

Had my car into the dealers today after it having a smoking fit whilst away in the Lakes

They have fit a new plastic part with the joint now been sealed by a big silver clip you tighten with a screw instead of the black clamp

The area has been steam cleaned too, so fingers crossed thats that

Bad new is i soon am going to be on my third rear diff Thud

Original lasted about a year and half, the replacement (or reworked part as they hinted today) lasted about another year and a half and hopefully LRCS and my Approved LR Extended Warranty are picking up the bill to fit the third one

If my car worked hard off road and wasn't just driven on roads i might understand a bit, but to have another one go after only 36k miles is a joke Evil or Very Mad Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Sounds to me like the FL2 is only supposed to be used for Tesco and the school run, with the occasional off road pavement parking to me, Rolling Eyes

Just a whirring noise as mentioned when in the lakes, so asked them to look at it whilst it was in Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Cost a pretty penny if you hadn't taken put extended warranty.

Neverthless it's Censored poor by L/R and you're not the only one to suffer either.
No wonder L/R don't offer 5 years Whistle Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I can understand the original going, Censored things happen, but the replacement going also, is a bit OTT

If they "reworked" the old diff that may be the issue. Sadly not all mechanics are well versed in the finer points of transmission assembly and the "close enough for jazz" ethic seems to rule instead of going by the book. I have on many occasions witnessed a skilled mechanic tightening up a diff pinion nut with an air wrench saying "yup, that's close enough" instead of going through the correct preload sequence for a collapsible spacer (Ford). 9 times out of ten he may be right but...... John

I asked if they had reworked it, as I was originally led to believe they had fully replaced by both the dealer and LRCS Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
