South Africa 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Whistler White
Cederberg Mountain trail

Hi,

My first post here. This weekend past I managed to convince the family to do a 4x4 trail over the Cederberg Mountains. It's probably a grade 1 or 2 trail, but 4x4's are required. Here's the trip map: http://goo.gl/maps/Pl9Bw

It was fun, but next time I'll spend more time on the trail. Do a two day trip or something.

The Freelander, a 2008 TD4 SE, behaved herself beautifully - I am very impressed with her performance.

I've walked some of that trail in my time when I lived in CPT.......it's difficult enough on foot, and the odd waterfall makes for a pleasant refreshing cool-down! How did the Freelander cope overall? Were you pleased with its performance? Foraging near Gaydon....

Yes, very pleased. I managed to average about 30km/h, and had a fuel consumption of 9.5 l/100km. No rattling during the entire trip, except for some keys that was lying in the central console Wink

The more I drive with it, the more I love this vehicle. I was a bit worried about some reportedly deep sand, but only noticed it after I crossed it! Otherwise the road is quite gravelly and I drove most of the way on gravel / snow mode - not necessary, but I found the altered suspension and throttle settings provided a smoother ride to the family and my wife was less inclined to brake for me Wink

I didn't have to do any serious wading, the deepest stream we crossed was roughly about 500mm deep, but it had a solid rock bed - kept it steady on the accelerator and she purred through.
