Extended warranty

Hi all

my 59 HSE FL2 is coming up to 3 years old, is it worth extending the warranty . I have just had the rear diff done under warranty (26K Mileage) , and intend keeping the vehicle for the next few years.

Do you think I should extend the LR Warranty @£600 pa? This would work out at £3,600 for the next 6 years till I get a new vehicle?

Thanks for any advice / help Smile

I would read the small print all i hear about extended warranties is they dont pay out as they put everything down to wear and tear.

I think I'd rather keep the £600 per annum in my bank and take my chances! If you set the money aside, it gives you a fair bit to deal with issues. If it needs more than that spent on it, I'd be swapping it for something else.

Thanks guys.

I had a Mercedes before and £600 was loose change when it came to repairs especially electrics !!!

I will put the cash aside and keep my fingers crossed I think...

Cheers Smile

just got my extended land rover warranty docs its seems to be underwritten by car care plan warranties on paper it looks good there is only about 8 sections it does not cover audio inc sat nav, upolstery, tyres, brakes pads etc, glass, bodywork, etc but does give you cover up to the price you paid for the car in one claim and 750 pounds mot failure as well lets put it another way if your car was an auto and the box failed prematurley Big Cry the 3.5k to replace it should be coverd by the warranty plus you have got a certain pice of mind they will only cover vehicles up to 5 yrs old or i think its 75k miles i think without looking at the p/work again Thumbs Up rainy-city

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Zermatt Silver

I have always had the extended warranty on MY07 GS manual, now covered 97000 miles.

Reckon over past years I have paid 1500 cumulatively on extended warranty but during that time I have done 60,000 miles and had the following done:

new steering pump and reservoir
new suspension coil - front offside
new air conditioning compressor
new prop shaft
new drive shaft
new front bushes
numerous other small niggles sorted during servicing visits, including the infamous handbrake twice!

Now I really like my freelander but they do have a tendency to have the odd problem and I believe the above would have cost me significantly more, probably multiples more, than the cost of the warranty over that period. Each issue was fixed and covered under the extended warranty with no quibbles.

Worth remembering if you take out the policy at 4 years, 11 months and 20 days of age with 74999 miles your car is then covered for a further 12 months with unlimited mileage during that time.

England 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Fuji White

Land Rover sent me some paperwork back in September as my GS was coming up to 3 years old.

If I remember correctly they offered ‘approved’ with or without assistance and ‘select’ again with or without assistance. Basically, ‘approved’ was a continuation of the 3 year warranty and ‘select’ looked like it was outsourced and did not cover everything and cost £600! The approved was £850 with assistance.

The choice I had was to pay the £9.5k final payment and then find £71 a month for an extended warranty. I handed my GS back, used the equity as a deposit for a 12MY XS and added £70 to my monthly payments and got a new car with 3 years warranty for the price of an extended warranty Thumbs Up A Land Rover owner since 1988

I used to get rid at 3 years but kept my last FL1 until 5 years old Thumbs Up

Took out warranty year 4 and had no problems so did not bother year 5 and all was well Bow down

I have a LR extended warranty this time on my RRS though for piece of mind because they can cost a lot of money if they go wrong as the body needs to be removed for some jobs although in all likelihood LR would probably contribute half if pushed Shocked Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

I have the Select Warranty and have had no problem getting work done under it - replacement horn, rear wiper motor, steering pump. My experience is that the dealers are happy to do the work and will even argue your case. Might not be so with a different warranty. I don't have the Assistance bit as I can get recovery much cheaper via CSMA. My last experience of LR Assistance, a few years ago now, was not good, but from posts on here it seems they may have improved the service.

Tbh, I think it's worth paying for the peace of mind, even though the FR2 seems to be more reliable than your average Land Rover.

I've extended LR warranty (without roadside assist) and now in year 5. Clutch/DMF sorted under manufacturers warranty but diff nose bearing done under extended. Now have a rumble and slight judder on some 4-3 shifts so maybe DMF has a broken spring. Dealer has noted it but not bad enough to ask for warranty repair yet - still 6 months on cover. DMF plus a clutch plate is £1500 job if needed so £55 a month for 10 months is good value. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Thanks guys for taking the time to reply....

The more I read the more I think an extended warranty might be the way to go if I am keeping my FL2 for the next 6 years.

A lot of expensive mechanical faults seem to keep coming up Shocked I thought a 59 model would be future proof , but maybe not Crying or Very sad

Cheers Very Happy
