Wales 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black

I'm looking to get a Humax twin Freesat tuner with HDD so it doesn't matter about the tuner in the TV.
I just need a 1080p with a good picture, the sound doesn't matter. Niether does smart or 3D. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I also use a Humax twin Freesat box with HDD....very impressed with it! I don't have a surround sound set-up but I do have a NAD amplifier, a 120watt Yamaha base bin and a pair of Monitor Audio radius speakers........ this lot would blow the wall down if I turned it up to max!

Cabling is a lot less messy since HDMI and the demise of SCART cables. Just an HDMI cable from the Humax to the TV and a short stereo audio cable from the Humax to the amp. John

Muddywheels/JST,
Many thanks chaps Thumbs Up
By accident, I saw a 42in Sony LED in Sainsburys today, very cheap. Just SD freeview, 1080p, not smart or 3d, so no one wants it.
Reviews say good pic but crap sound. Seems all I need!

JST, good to hear your thoughts on Humax HDD Thumbs Up agreed about HDMI. I use the audio out from my TV to pre amp as i've several inputs to the TV. Sound is fine via two old Cambridge (UK built) monoblocks and B&W Matrix 802's. As you say, BOOM!

Went to Curry/Comet and the best sound they said had came from a TV headphone socket to active Bose speakers.
It was dreadful Big Cry Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

And I think I can help you.
Firstly, have you got a hi fi amp with a spare input?
Is so ,you can use that and there are several ways to hook it up. Modern tv's have got rid of the RCA audio out unforunately, but are ways around this.

Cheers, Unfortunately I have a Toshiba Regza with loads of inputs but no audio outputs, but looking on the net it seems a 'scart breakout' adaptor may do the trick that will allow me to plug into the audio in on my hi fi, I'll try that Smile

Ey,
Yep, spot on. I did that for years on the old CRT telly.
There are two dedicated scart pins L and R for audio out.
You can get from Maplin a Scart to two RCA phono and plug that into your amp.
Just check the length of cable.
You can also use the headphone socket to amp via 6.3 to twin RCA phono, but in general the headphone socket (if you've got one) are on the side of the TV and looks messy. Also from Maplin. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

My old (12 yrs) Loewe Nemos CRT telly recently died and we went in search of a replacement.
NO-ONE was selling CRT tellies! What the f***! Had to buy a non-CRT tech TV. Disgraceful.
Bought a Panasonic Plasma TV. Picture needed LOADS of tweaking. It died after 3 days - wouldn't switch on.
Swapped it (thanks John Lewis) for a Philips LED 7000 series 40" TV with 5 year warranty. VERY nice picture.

I think you can still buy CRTs in developing countries, but probably not upmarket models like Loewe.

Went for 47'' LED LG.
Great pic in HD. SD is also okay. No analogue Audio out. Spoke to LG who said 'you can't use the headphone socket to connect to hi fi Amp'
Tosh, it works fine Thumbs Up
TV delivered today from Co Op, excellent service.

Better than my Sony Bravia LCD which was twice the price. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
