These aren't bad, if you don't want anything too fancy... http://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/picture/beovision-11
Other than that you could just buy a Samsung or Panasonic like me!

BOSE VIDEOWAVE 2 Twisted Evil its awesome! Knock your socks off sound and amazing picture. Hefty pricetag too but if you got the money its well worth it. When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car

we bought a samsung plasma as plasmas have glass screens so are more protected from the kids bashing them.smearing them with jam etc.
good tv great picture... but you have to hold the remote about 1ft from the tv to make it work Evil or Very Mad not such a big deal as we have sky so only need the remote for the volume and on/off. its a fault rather than flat batteries Ive tried that and using different remotes.

the salesman in curries rattled on about plasma vs lcd for ages then, right at the end of his speil he simply said, youve got little kids get the plasma, and chain it to the wall as it weighs a tonne and balances on a small stand At work

I'm sure I'm teaching granny here, but check there isn't still a piece of protective film over the sensor on the TV. Some Humax PVRs got a bit of a reputation for poor performance of the remote, and it turned out that people were failing to notice, and thus remove, a piece of film. The film was reducing the sensitivity of the sensor.

good attempt but I used to work, there is no film, either the sensor in the tv is weak or has moved slightly out of line with the viewing hole. Im not keen on disassembling the surround to solve the problem. must be a rare fault as I googled it and found no other mentions.
my panasonic hard disc recorder failed, I googled it and discovered how to fix it using two capacitors bought for pennies and a soldering iron, lasted 4 years before failing again, fixed again using same method Very Happy

Im unsure about samsung products, this tv fault and an american style fridge freezer that has been noisy and prone to frosting up all it life, despite having new parts 'improved' fitted. recent fixed that too after googling lead me to change the defrost heater. At work

FWIW

I have a 40" LCD Sony (which is quite a few years old) and a 50" Plasma which is 2 years old.
The Sony is a bit old tec but is a reasonable performer. The remote is awful.
The Panasonic is fairly good. It doesn't seem to cope with motion well but most of the time the picture is really nice. However, the one thing that really annoys me about the Panasonic is the EPG for Freeview. It actually reserves space on the screen to show adverts! So the EPG display is comprimised in order to feed you adverts! I've managed to diable the adverts but it still means there is wasted space which could otherwise have been used to make the EPG better. I have no idea if all modern tv EPGs are the same but I do know that most Panasonics do this. Fortunately I use BT Vision and so 99% of the time I'm using that for the EPG rather than the telly.
I hate adverts and I hate being force fed them at every opportunity. Grr.

Stuart

This will be my next set - agree about sending sound thru hi-fi amp and speakers. My Sumo class A with Tannoy speakers bring everything alive.

without steering this away from Pegleg's topic, how are you guys connecting from and to external speakers Question
At the moment my ears demand 40 notches out of 50 for TV sound and I'm fast running out of volume Laughing I've tried the headphone socket out to powered external speakers but even that is limited, and I don't want HiFi sound, just good volume.

If a Mod or Pegleg thinks it belongs to a new thread then apologies, please move.

You should have LH and RH audio out on the back of the tv. Just run an audio cable from each to the LH and RH input on your hifi amp or pre amp. The digi-box also has audio output sockets. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Richer Sounds tend to have slightly out of date kit but at good prices. Not only do they do a 5-year warranty, they will REFUND the cost of the warranty after 5 years if you don't claim.
It's true that Plasmas are much heavier on juice - some LCDs have a narrow viewing angle - check that when buying.

No probs EY Thumbs Up
And I think I can help you.
Firstly, have you got a hi fi amp with a spare input?
Is so ,you can use that and there are several ways to hook it up. Modern tv's have got rid of the RCA audio out unforunately, but are ways around this.
Just using external speakers won't help as the amp inside tv's are all carp, I mean 15w peak music power? What's 'peak music power'? About 2W RMS i think.
Currys/Comet etc have never ever sold anything that resembles a decent sound. Just lots of bling with no gumption. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
