People interpret things differently, so how do you interpret the information regarding the mirror heaters in the MY11 owners manual Taz Question
Would you think to switch on the rear screen heater for them to heat after reading that. Question

It's interesting that both cars manuals are wrong.
LR defo is not temp dependent only, the heated rear screen needs to be on.
Merc say the screen needs to be on but many a time I teach out and check and the glass is warm.

The only conclusion I can draw is the same printer is used and they mixed up some pages. Laughing

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

If you look at the 2013 MY manual on Topix under Eco Stop/Start it refers to D, R and N as gearbox settings when it will work. Eco Stop/Start is not available on an auto Freelander (yet) and manuals don't have D. R and N.
So the manual is not always correct.

In both my Freelander 2's the heated door mirror function has only worked with the heated rear windscreen turned on despite what it may say in the manual.

Maybe we should start a competition to spot other anomalies in the manual?

Errors and omissions excepted on the end of a paragraph marked important, I bet there's loads in there.
I have to proof read some of our manuals, we have special geometry to avoid having to X-ray through the cervical spine.
My Korean colleagues called it GAC, or geometry avoiding cervix Laughing

The mirror heaters do indeed only operate with the HRW. As Tom Jones might say, it's not unusual. Many other cars are similar.
What confuses me is the 'time out', or lack of it. All heating elements as we all know, are current hungry. You don't want them on any longer that nessesary, particulary in low temperatures, in order to take care of the battery.

However, mine don't seem to time out, I have to switch off the HRW manualy.
If there is a timing function, it must take ages. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Cheers for clarification Thumbs Up

It does seem there's quite a few 'cockups' in the manual that are left for us to decipher.

This morning there was a fine misty covering on my windows and mirrors, I deliberately only used the wipers to clear and wound down and up the other windows to wipe clear, travelled to work slowly in traffic and the mirrors were still the same when I arrived, so no automatic heating.

mine were misted again this morning so this time i tried the hrw and the mirrors cleared and they were warm to the touch yesterday they did not clear even though i used the wipers half a dozen times or more,
appears you need the hrw on to activate the heated external rear view mirrors
