Thanks for all your ideas Thumbs Up

Mona Geeza - "absolutely fabulous darling" Embarassed

I think the rational argument is the FL2 towing ability and the option of being able to put our bikes and Caravan on the towbar together, this may sound small beer but taking full size bikes rather than folding has great merit Very Happy

On this same tack, we can't overlook the narrowness of the boot and the fact that golf bags won't fit across the car and as we play more golf than tow the caravan with bikes the balance swings back Big Cry

On the emotional front, some Luxus owners find the cars a bit sterile and don't exactly bond with or look forward to driving them in the same way that LR owners do Whistle

On the dealer front, in the recent Auto Express Driver Power table out of 30 dealers, Land Rover were placed 20th and Lexus 1st Bow down

So why do so many people by LR Question

I went to college with some of the Rover chaps during the 90s and I remember them telling me about a chart they produced with quality on one axis and customer satisfaction on the other, in theory better quality = happier customers etc. This seemed to hold true for most of there model range except Land Rover 90/110, they admitted that they were producing some really bad quality 90/110s but customers just kept on buying them Banging Head So as Yoda might have said, "the Brand is strong in this one"

Still on the fence and happy to fall either way, eyes wide open Thud

One the contractors I use at work has just purchased two 12 month old Lexus RX400's for himself and his co-director, and while I don't doubt the good customer relations and maybe the reliability of them it wasn't for me.

In the car park he proudly showed it off and I honestly tried to look impressed, but it was big yet bland, roomy yet I still felt like I was sitting too close to the floor, the over the bonnet view was non existent. The plastics, hard and soft had not faired well, there was marks everywhere. I smiled where I thought it appropriate but it looked crap, it reminded me that the FL2 is still a pleasure to sit in and drive whereas I could tire of the Lexus quite fast.

You get in and drive other cars from 'A' to 'B' but you are part of the car in a LandRover and want to repeat the journey all over again Smile, in fact you have to sometimes just to re-generate the bloody DPF. Laughing

Interesting point. My MD has an 11 Plate RX400H and has been plagued by telematic/electrical problems from day 1. Whilst the service received from Lexus has been exemplary to date, he has very little faith in the vehicle, and usually uses his wife's Q5 when he travels.

I guess that there's good and bad in all, but I would prefer a vehicle that wasn't unreliable over tea out of a china cup all day long! Foraging near Gaydon....

IIRC my dads RX450h had one issue, can't remember what it was, but the dealer manager drove from sheffield to Leeds and dropped his car off whilst they fixed it, a week or two later the same issue showed again, same thing offered again, but this time my dad dropped it off and there was a man from Lexus headoffice there to investigate, thinking about it i think it was to do with the Lexus towbar electrics communicating with the car

Lexus watch given to him as an apology and a nice discount on some Lexus clothing

LR dealerships would be great if they learnt from Lexus way of doing things, Whistle I had a look at a Infiniti FX30d AT S Premium (soft roader) the other day, like lexus felt too car like for me and was in RRS money Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Tough call, but I think you should take the missus to Audi (Q5), Volvo (XC60) and BMW (X3) to put a few more irons in the fire!!

The lexus is horrible and ugly so would stick with the FL2 Thumbs Up

nb - saw the new FFRR today being driven on trade plates on the M6 in Havanna Beige -

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!! Bow down Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless!
Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons
Gone - 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Rimini Red with bodykit

Going back to the original post, I was reading today that the car may have a substantially harder ride than the extremely smooth ride in the Freelander, without any particular benefit to handling.

Thud

Had a look at the Warranty Direct web site http://www.reliabilityindex.com/

On their database the most reliable car in the uk is the Kia Picanto which scores 3 (lowest no. the better) and here are the cars I pitched around the FL2 (most reliable first):

Ford S-Max (06-) = 22
Honda CR-V (02-06) = 31
Land Rover Freelander (06 -) = 44
Chrysler 300C (05 -) = 58
Kia Sorento (03 -) = 60
Lexus RX (not hybrid 03-09) = 61
Volvo XC70 (00-07) = 98
Freelander (03-07) = 132
Audi Q7 (06-) = 155
Land Rover Discovery (04- ) = 190
BMW X5 (00-07) = 216

So on this basis the FL2 is not the most reliable AWD but is very far from the worst, so the only real sticking point is the "Terrible Land Rover dealers Embarassed ".

So I need to find a small dealer that needs my business rather than my money, so the question is which of the many dealers we have around the South of England can anyone recommend when the sh_t hits the fan Question

Or perhaps, which of the dealers could you not recommend Question

Confused

Shilen made a very valid point on another thread; if you're tempted by the real deal, don't wait until the snow arrives before trying to buy one....

I can vouch for Roger Young in Saltash in Cornwall, just outside Plymouth, though that may be a bit too far south! Rolling Eyes

Then, of course, you've got all of the problems associated with re-importing it to England....
