Bonet Rust

Just noticed that my bonnet is starting to rust a bit at the front edge, car is a 57 (2008) model, so guessing its out of warranty, any tips?

There have been no repairs to the car, its been owned by my dad since new, and have just bought it from him, not been involved in any accidents.

Not good indeed, but just found the details on the website.

Quote:
The paint surface warranty's period of cover begins at the same time as the vehicle warranty and continues for a period of three years.

So not looking good, for a 4 year and 8 month old car...

Anti corrosion warranty is six years but don't think that covers surface rust...

Quote:
Should any part of the bodywork of the vehicle be perforated by rust corrosion, the panels affected by the perforation will be repaired or replaced by any Land Rover dealer/Authorised Repairer, completely free of charge, regardless of any change in vehicle ownership.

The anti-corrosion warranty begins at the same time as the vehicle warranty and continues for a period of six years.

The term 'perforation' means a hole that penetrates through the bodywork caused by corrosion from the inside or underside as a result of faulty manufacture or materials.

Difficult to see quite what is going on, which are rain drops, which are stone chips, I am suspecting the latter in which case it won't be covered under warranty.

Always important to get any chips covered ASAP, if the metals protective coating has been breached it will allow the metal maggots to breed.

There aren't any noticeable stone chips in the area, the marks on the photo are raindrops, will take another picture after tea and wipe the area with a cloth first.

Have a really good look at the bonnet, I know of dozens of cars that have had paintwork done at the dealers, Mercs n BM's, mainly, due to mishaps in the workshop, customer comes back a day or two later with the excuse that some parts were delayed, "but we have valeted and polished your car for you as a goodwill gesture" worked every time.
So have a look for any tell tale signs, overspray, underneath etc, as CG said, and check under the edge, there may be a chip under there you can't see.

Ps, glad you have Tea, at the correct time, none of this Lunch then Dinner in the evening nonsense Laughing

Wil have to wait until tomorrow to take the picture, its started raining very heavy here now!

It has never been at the dealer for more than one working day so its def not a fix job... (Plus stop making me paranoid! Trying to cut back on that...)

Did have another good look there are def no chips near by, will just have to see what lr say... Guessing no, but you never know...

Some vehicles are damaged on delivery due to striking low tree branches when being transported on the top deck at the front of the transporter, seen this several times and often wondered what they did with those cars, some have smashed screens too, it could have have new bonnet fitted before delivery that wasnt rust proofed or prepared properly?? maybe.

Couldnt get damaged under the bonnet though and it seems like a recurring problem.

The restrictions placed on paintwork warranty blows a gaping hole in the need to have the car serviced by an expensive dealership after year 3. Just my opinion. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Just an update on this, land rover are going to respray the bonnet under warranty, very pleased with the outcome, stratstone stockton have been very helpful and handled the full process with minimal inconviance to me.

They are even going to pick the car up while I am on holiday, I have some more pictures as it has got much worse since the first lot, I will upload them later today / tomorrow.
