chirping noise sound like what i have had and that was causing a flat spot

That sounds bad. I bet the parts alone plus the vat are around £1000 or so. Not to mention the labour <breaking>

That's interesting. Mine sounds more like a quick chirp, like a slipping belp, rather than a whine. It also doesn't do it when your stationary reving the engine.

Actually I was wrong with last post. If you rev it in nutural it makes the same noise. Not load enough to record, feels like the car is coughing to clear its through. |

that was the problem i had, still not under as much load, but driving the chirp was louder, but the wind noise from the window been down drowned out the noise

I had the same problem with my TD5 discovery and it Was the exhaust manifold gasket. The manifold had warped and the gasket blew, and you could see soot marks on the bulkhead and head. It also made that sort of noise.
