Time for some new winter footwear - Now Purchased!

At the moment I have some gore-tex walking shoes which have a vibram rubber sole that can take some serious hammer and they need to for the daily dog walk on various footpaths (springer spaniels do like a good walk!) They handle rain and shine ok but ankles get a bit wet if it tips it down but that's to be expected due to them not being boots. Paid £50 a few months ago:

Anyway, these won't handle icy cold days/nights and certainly not snow, so after some searching, I am leaning towards getting a pair of these (Can get them for £96 inc delivery):

P.S, for unbeatable traction on ice and compacted snow, I already have these (could not slip even when trying to!): http://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehsel4...60K%7B%7BQ LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I'm a fan of Soloman. Have their speed-cross trainer and some 3/4 boots. They do one, similar to The North Face, called Quest 4D Gtx. I found it very comfy. I guess whichever fits best is your best bet.

Cheers Harvey

Just trying one more shop on Sunday and if there is nothing I prefer, I will opt for The North Face Arctic Hedgehogs! They certainly sound the business. Fully waterproof and thermal lining plus the winter grip that has "ice picks" that extend when the temps get cold to give better grip. They will be tough to beat.

Only problem is, sometimes I take a 9 and sometimes a 10. Depends on styles or brands. I don't want to end up posting them back if they don't fit and no shops sell them around here so I might opt for 9.5 and hope for the best. Sending them back is a bit of a pain. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

My brother does a lot of walking with his hound, about 2-3 hours a day, he has tried a lot of brands, and like you walking the dog in all weathers has found the style your looking at give way quite quickly, and now resorts to leather walking boots

Worth thinking about Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I think they would be ok for me but I guess this would suit your brother: http://img.wolverineworldwide.com/is/image...=png-alpha LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I fancy some of these http://www.muckbootcompany.com/Documents/2..._FINAL.pdf

not ideal for long distances but look very handy for snow wet mud shooting photography etc.

Those North face boots look good for longer walks too. Thumbs Up

Brasher fan myself, supalite gtx. A walking boot that feels like you have worn them in the first time you wear them.

If it's boots your after, look no further that Lundhags....

I wear Lundhags Syncro Pro's everday in the winter and have
for years now. Not the cheapest boots, but the best.

Invest in a pair and they will last you for years and years, I
have a pair that I walk the dog's in and I've had the over
20 years and still a good boot.

Something like that would be great if you walked the beat everyday and need good footwear, bit ott for walking the dog Confused

But I suppose the buy right buy once train of thought may save money over the next four or five years when you have need to buy 3 or 4 new cheaper boots Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Well after visiting another shop today and failing to find something that suited me, I have taken the plunge with The North Face boots. All things considered they were the best buy for me. My gore-tex shoes I mentioned will continue to get the most use anyway until the weather turns cold or it hammers it down with rain and our dog walks are strictly footpaths and pavements not hills and mountains so they will be more than up to the job.

I ordered size 9.5 so I just hope they are right and I hope they are nice and comfy. Got them from here in the end: http://www.e-outdoor.co.uk/441110/products...PriceComp1

Also going to purchase a pair of these once I have shopped around for the best price: http://uk.thenorthface.com/tnf-uk-en/men-s...48665.html LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Well they arrived this morning and they fit Very Happy 9.5 was bang on.

Very comfy and a nice soft thermal lining which you just know is going to keep your feet warm even in deep snow and sub zero temps but that's the idea I guess Laughing
