A smart charger will not (in theory) damage the electrics. I think the handbook is aimed mainly at standard chargers, not smart chargers.

Never hurt my FL2, and used to keep the battery topped up frequently over the winter. |

I use a CTEK smart charger and have had no problems, I also use the perminant fitted plug.

Good to know you can charge the battery while its in the car,i just got a Ring smart charger think will give the batterry a boost before winter. |
