What have you done to your tailgate CG!!! Banging Head

Nothing like seeing what you can use from the back of a cupboard!! Laughing

A peice of nylon webbing and some blackanodised screws would have made a much nicer job of it, and cost next to nothing.

Nasty people Big Cry

The well nuts I used to attach the belt came with some nice domed stainless bolts but theses proved to be too short so I am using cheap nasty spout bolts. I did consider webbing and other materials but they must be stiff enough not to sag when door is closed and trap on the sill when the door is shut. When I'm out and about I may come across some prettier material/bolts but it is only the boot.
I did notice on ebay a proper handle as fitted to VW transporters but the attaching end of the handle looked unsuitable.
The important thing is that the handle is sturdy and reachable and also doesn't strain the interior of the door when used.
It is a Marks and Spencers belt you know not any old cheap rubbish Laughing

Being a farmer I do tend to recycle things a fair bit, my BBQ is an old air receiver tank mounted on legs and wheels , Sounds dodgy I know but looks the part and cooks my steaks a treat, and as it is nearly 3ft long you can lay a whole salmon on the grill and close the lid for a nice slow cook.

Result - apparently my land-rover salesman checks this site on occasions and has seen my picture, and to cover his embarrassment, and to compensate for your sniggers, my fl2 is going to be the first customer vehicle to have an electric tailgate fitted Laughing Laughing Apparently land-rover have been testing it for a while and want a real customer to try it out and give feedback.

With a bit of a tidy up cg you could flog this solution on ebay. You are to be applauded for such a neat job I suspect I would have resorted to a length of baler twine.
The best solution though would be a side hinged taildoor with a drop glass, oh for the fresh air supplied by Freda, kick up s/roofs and drop t/gate glass, so many more long load options still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

Seriously? Thumbs Up that's something I would look into.
I wonder if you could still close manually though. On the 5 series that have electric tailgate opening, it can be irritating waiting for it to open and close (esp when monsoon-ing like today) when a quick slam would do the trick. Phil

My RRS has an electric tailgate opener and closer..................... it's as good as useless as it only opens it the first 5mm's and pulls it onto the latch when you lower the boot, the rest of the way you have to get dirty hands doing it yourself - it's more like a "soft shut" than an electric tailgate lift! It's even more useless than the electric sidesteps that were fitted to a FFRR Vogue SE that I test drove, at least those gave little kids like me hours of fun operating the central locking just to see the side steps extend from their hiding place under the sills and retract back away from sight! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?
Now driving - RRE Coupe Dynamic Lux Auto with Plus pack, Fuji White, Ebony, SD4 with tow pack

Ok I lied about the electric closer Laughing , just to see what would happen, And yes your all still rude to me Crying or Very sad well some of you Wink . Still better to ruin an fl2 by drilling 2 holes rather than painting it grey Laughing

As mentioned, I believe the electric closer would have been a pain as they are quite slow, better to use a bit of old belt, Next week I'm making a sunroof from an old double glazing unit, Imagine that a double glazed sunroof in lovely UPVC Thumbs Up .

Yesterday Mrs G was looking over the back seat at Finn while she closed the tailgate, She somehow managed to slam the tailgate onto her head causing a quite large bruise Shocked . Not only that she also dropped the bag she was holding, resulting in my chocolate cake being a bit broken Evil or Very Mad At work
