I would not bother upgrading if I had the 4S either D99 but I deliberately avoided a 4S upgrade because I knew Apple were buying time for the 5.

I have checked with 02 and the gits say I can't upgrade until December (1 month before end of contract)

I've been watching yesterday's introduction to it and it's a great bit if kit, but I don't 'need' a new phone at the moment.

If it had NFC (Near Field Communication) within it I may have parted with my hard-earned but it doesn't.

Instead I've decided to upgrade my software for work in order to upgrade my OS on my iMac i7.

iOS 6 will make my iPhone 4 appear new again, although I'm not sure if it'll cope with the speed - well see. But at least my New iPad should cope in any case!

Your 4 should be fine, one thing apple do well is make their products so they can be updated and used for years.

Erm no they don't. I have a 15 month old iPad 1 no isos 6 for me. Less than 2 years old and apple are no longer bothered about me! plus changing the connector on the iPhones and forcing everyone to buy adaptors for all their old stereos etc is pure greed.

IMHO Apple USED to be the cool, non mainstream company. Hard to keep this up when you are one of the largest companies in the world.

The iPad 2 was launched March 2011, which is 18 months ago. If you have an iPad 1 then it must be at least 18 months old if you bought it at the end of the first gen when everyone was expecting the second one.

The iPad 1 was launched in March 2010, so that is 30 month old hardware that is no longer supported. Does Samsung support the Galaxy Wave, or whatever their revolutionary product was at that time? I would be surprised if there are any still working, and certainly cant run Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean.

I have an "old" stereo, but I guess the "new" stereos will come with "new" connectors. Remember when everyone started adopting the usb micro format of connector? That was a huge problem for everyone with usb mini chargers wasnt it? Maybe it wasnt such a big deal. I just ordered an adaptor to sit on the end of a micro plug which works with the new lightning socket for £15... Other than that I am wireless anyway. The new plug is fully digital and prepares us for the demands of the next gen tech.

In my eyes, Apple is still very much getting it right, and I am very happy seeing them make money out of me for supplying brilliant high quality products that outlast their competition and reinvesting it to bring us new product lines for a focused market. They still only have 3 mobile device brands, Samsung has 26 currently - I find that confusing.

Actually October 2010, bought iPad. There was no release date for iPad 2 at that point, and it had only been launched 6 months previously.

So it's still less than 2 years old (only just) but I'm prepared to admit technology moves on quickly. I take that on the chin. I just don't buy into the fact Apple 'care' about their customers. Really they want you to update your stuff fairly frequently. But that's business

Yes, it's easy enough to buy an adapter. However, most have less disposable income at the moment. It may put some people off, it does come across as greedy to many. It is probably the right thing to do in a technical sense but most people are emotional when it comes to spending money. The highly paid corperates in Apple need to keep this in mind.

Apple have a great following. Obviously I have their products too. At the moment they mostly get it right. However, it's pretty near impossible for a technology company to be out in front forever. That's all I'm saying.

I know, I am a complete sucker and yes I upgrade everytime something new comes out...

That means I dont feel the pain that you are at the moment. It is sad that the new features dont run on the old hardware, but I guess it just cant, cos the new stuff wasnt invented then.

To fund it, I basically write the depreciation into a monthly cost of ownership, so at the change cycle (which are quite predictable), I have a fund that can be used for the upgrade if I sell the old device.

I try to keep my wife updated too, but she doesnt see the benefit of having the new thing, so she normally lags about 6 months behind my purchases.

Either way, the iPad 1 is still some great hardware considering it is not running the new iOS.

iPhone arrived this morning

And it's taken all of 3 minutes to change my number, have all my contacts uploaded and info onto it. If nothing else, it's definitely the easiest and quickest phone I've ever had from opening to being fully functioning!

It feels like a genuinely nice thing to hold though, definitely as high a quality as the Macbook Airs. More along the lines of a Tag watch etc.

And now that I have a fully functioning phone, I'm going to go to the gym, work etc. Excitement over! (Although I may go laugh at the people queueing outside Apple in Birmingham!) Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
