DVLA

I had to fill in a form for dvla regarding taking insulin,on the form I ticked the wrong box by mistake as a result they revoked my driving licence, loads of phone calls to no avail, so I have to fill in another form and reapply for my licence and include a letter from my doctor, dvla are not helpfull at all this will take at least two weeks so I have two cars and cannot drive none of them.

Could be worse. Friend's doctor filled out the form "no fits since change of medication" and they took his licence away immediately. Every phone call to "helpful" DVLA got him a different reason for the action but we eventually worked it out and a letter from his consultant explaining that he had never had a fit with or without medication did the trick. Without his licence he had to camp out for weeks at his work because he couldn't get there without the car!
Hope you are sorted soon.
And had something similar with my HGV application - DVLA refused to believe an army doctor's eye test and insisted on a letter from my optician. My last HGV medical was a joke. Very nice doctor had never filled one in before so I had to tell him what to write for all the answers. Sigh.

Touch wood, my dealings have always been ok with the DVLA. I stopped driving for nearly 2 years in Jan 2007 and got my licence back in Oct 2008 having been seizure free for over 12 months.

I have epilepsy but have only had 3 sleep seizures and new guidelines state that I can apply for a full licence again now as opposed to a 3 year one with question mania that I did in 2011.

The guidelines also state that if I have only ever had sleep seizures for 3 years (diagnosed in 2007), then I would be ok to keep my licence even if I suffered a new one now. This is because the DVLA are satisfied that I would not suffer a daytime seizure.

I can understand your frustration though. I had gone 10 months into my 12 month ban and I had another seizure so had to start over again Evil or Very Mad

Hopefully they will sort it out for you. Only a mistake after all. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

There has been a particular problem with diabetes due to new European rules (see for example http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-...tat.html). I don't know to what extent this has been sorted out, but it would not affect epilepsy sufferers. It was these new rules that caused the problem for my friend, and may be making life difficult for the OP. There is a lot of advice on diabetes.org.uk which may be helpful.

Odd that. Google "diabetes licence" and it's the fourth one down (and does work). Eigth on Yahoo.

Strange that it does not seem the EU rules causing the difficulty, but the DVLAs iterpretation of those rules Sad

ie some government jobsworth, has decided to treat nocturnal low sugar problems, the same as daytime blackouts. Now call me thick (or misinformed), but it would be a lot easier to notice that your sugar level was low if you are awake.
End result of this is people who are at risk will not inform thier doctor (and thus the DVLA) when their medicine dosage is wrong, for fear of loosing thier jobs. So they (and us) are more at risk of blackouts while at the wheel.

Don't tell me or them it is selfish, you have a mortgage, kids and are the breadwinner, and your going to put the family out on the street, because some jobsworth has decided an issue when your asleep makes you unsafe Exclamation The problem now is their medication is wrong and they MAY be at risk of blackouts.

Well done the DVLA Censored Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Biggest problem with the DVLA is that there is no competition, so they can be as Censored as they want and get away with it.

And being government backed, who's to change them? Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

You can also have problems with them if you are a more mature person like myself.
When you reach the very young age of 70 you have to apply for a new licence, but what they do not tell
you is that if you have any additional entitlements ie LGV, motor cycle, minibus, etc you must state that you
wish to retain these or they will remove them without any explanation.
I have a friend who relied on working part time in the trucking industry to top up his pension, and lost his
LGV by default and they would not reinstate his entitlement under any circumstances so now he is applying
for pension credit and instead of being independent we are all, going to have to contribute to top up his pension.

Final word, if you are in this situation apply at least six months before you birthday as in my case it took
5 months to get it sorted.
