Stereo Aux Socket Confusion

I went out to the car the other day with my iPhone (loaded with SatNav) and tried to plug in the 3.5mm jack plug into the Aux Socket between the seats.

It wouldn't go in...??? On further inspection it looks like the socket is more the design used for Power Cables!!!!

The one with the central pin and side contact???

Anyone found this problem? 2002 Honda VFR800

The aux socket is (should be) just that - I plug my iPhone in there all the time to play through the stereo. Unless, of course, a previous owner has been fiddling...?

This is the best pic I could take - you can just see the pin in the centre.... 2002 Honda VFR800

That certainly looks like the standard socket, in which case it should take a standard 3.5mm stereo plug. It sounds as though it may have been damaged at some point.

I can't remember the name of the type of connector - but it was used on lots of power adaptors for all sorts of electrical equipment - you'll have loads in your house I'll guess.

Doesn't look broken - I trained as an electronics engineer so have a bit of insight - just don't understand why it isn't a standard 3.5mm socket.....! 2002 Honda VFR800

if it doesn't accept a 3.5mm phone jack, then how can it not be broken or jammed Confused Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

One can never be sure what a previous owner may have done, but it's perhaps more likely that it's the standard socket with something stuck in it. The broken-off tip of a 3.5mm plug possibly?

You could always remove whatever trim is necessary to gain access to the underside and see whether the wiring looks standard. If you can get at it, attach a multimeter and see if there are any voltages present.

If someone really has replaced the standard socket with a power outlet one might expect some electronics in there to convert 12v down to something more appropriate for whatever was plugged in. But I still suspect a damaged aux!

Looks like its broken socket. According to http://lrparts.net.ru/ the part no is LR003821.

Britcar sell them http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php?xProd=150373 for around £5.

It's described as a volume control but apparently it's not according to this thread on another forum http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/replacing...98280.html

Be really surprised if it turns out to be a charging/power socket in there! Discovery 4 HSE - Aintree Green

if it is standard , not been "mucked about with" socket IT IS and DOES take 3.5 mm stereo jack plug,

great to plug the Amateur radio into ,surround sound audio from 9 speakers (great when you getting a bit hard of hearing ..!!) Sheep Sheep Thumbs Up

p.s. do I have to post twice to qualify..??? Wales
