New auto box needed

Hello, does anyone know the best place to buy an auto box for my '57 HSE, 95k miles. My Indy says it is completely "goosed!" and reading up on some of the posts here that is not a suprise. I think LR want around £3.5k for a new one (I've not actually checked) My Indy is suggesting a reconditioned for approx £2k fitted. Has anyone got experience in this area? I've had 5 years from the old box and would like to think I'll get another 5 from a replacement one, so not just a cheap quick fix please.

Only 100k miles from a box? Thats really bad imo. I would definately go for a recon unit. You may even find it gives you better service. 2012 DISCOVERY 4 GS AUTO ORKNEY GREY

hi

there was a mention in the LRO mag about auto boxes only lasting anything between 50,000 to 100,000 miles, there was no indication on which auto boxs this included or if it was the life span of all of them

your best option will be exchange yours for a recondition one 1995 P38 now dead

Hi Definitely go for remanufactured one. These rebuilds are often made using upgraded internal parts so reman one will often lasts longer than new one for nearly half price. It would be nice to know from all of you here how many miles you have on your auto boxes...may be I should start a new thread.... Smile

To be honest, this thread worries me. I sold my Hilux doublecab with 190 000kms on the clock - still on it's first clutch, never mind gearbox.

Moondog: seems other car brands also have these problems - having 2009 Subaru Forester Diesel in my workshop with burnt clutch after 60 000 km.....called Subaru dealer and asked if they ever seen it....dealer said they have two of them on lifts with clutches gone...one with 35k km on the clock....hmmmmmm......world is changing.... Very Happy

i had a L200 clutch only lasted 75000 miles,

i see both the clutch and dual mass flywheel as consumable parts that will sooner or later need replacing, it all comes down to what the vehicle is used for 1995 P38 now dead

Seriously? We think 50k on a gearbox is reasonable?

This could be a big reason not to buy one of these cars. Not sure about you guys, but I don't plan on saving £3,500 over a 4 year period to replace my gearbox. So does that mean there are a load of 60k used vehicles out there where the owners are about to get a nasty surprise?

Depreciation doesn't seem so bad when you build these kind of costs into a used one! 2012 DISCOVERY 4 GS AUTO ORKNEY GREY
