Windscreen Replacement

Hello

Unfortunately I need to replace the windscreen on my 2010 SE TD4. Big Cry

Has anyone any experience with non-genuine replacement windscreens? Are there any significant differences to the genuine glass?

I have windscreen insurance and was wondering if I should insist on a genuine replacement.

Cheers

hard to say what your branding would be, but,

I have had my old freelander2 screen replaced, and it was done by a UK nationwide company called Autoglass

They assured me the glass would be identical, made in the same factory as the OEM ones and the only difference is, it had SOLARFLARE instead of LAND ROVER as branding

Well they fitted it, it looked like glass, it had the elements in it for the heated screen, I adjusted my rear view mirror and it fell off in my hand

Went back in, obviously annoyed and they could not fix it, they eventually had to conceded that the arm was in the wrong place or something and got a OEM screen to remedy it

Funny how they were made exactly the same, just with different brand makes, but this was so far out, it made me think they were obviously lying

OEM all the way from now on Exclamation Thumbs Up

Autoglass replaced my screen with a non-genuine one. Heaters didn't work properly in the centre, replaced it a second time with a genuine LR unit. No problems second time. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

G'Day Styler, Had my windscreen replaced three months ago, via RACV insurance, with genuine Land Rover screen. The people who fitted it did an excellent job, but it was $1500 fitted - thank you RACV! The fitters did mention that, as far as they knew, nobody in Australia did a non genuine replacement screen for the Freelander -like many European cars - since it's a pretty small market.

Its like lots of branded items, when folk are trying to sell you theirs they will say its just the same and just the label thats different. Very very often you can tell the difference in quality only when you see them side by side.
I always go for OEM that way I know its the same as that fitted on the car and it will in fact fit properly, even though it costs much more usually.

Just an update, second screen heaters failed after 2 years.
Screen was replaced again under warranty by Autoglass, free, no hassle, no quibble.

Apparrently they garauntee the screen for the life of the vehicle, while you still own it. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
