DMF Question

Can I ask the collective for their views on driving style to reduce DMF wear?

I wouldn't regard my driving style as particularly advanced, or even being aware of what effect it has on the vehicle, so I tried some searches to see whether there is anything I can do to reduce/delay the dreaded DMF issue.

The only advice I could find came from 'Honest John' and basically stated not to run the car at engine idle revs with the clutch fully engaged, and the avoid hard acceleration in first and second gear.

I welcome any comments suggestions from the committee, if you are not already sick to death with this subject. Bow down

Simply drive smoothly without "snatching" on gear changes. Minimise hard power on/power off actions, especially in lower gears. If towing a 'van, try to tow smoothly through the gears without spilling a virtual bucket of water stood on the van floor Wink BTW, my FL2 is on 87k, with original clutch/DMF. They don't all break early. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

One other thing: If you find you have a flat battery and need to start it, avoid the "bump" start method (ie, pushing or towing then engaging 2nd gear to spin the engine over). It can damage the DMF. Jump start it with jump leads from another battery. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

And make sure you are using the correct oil (multiple threads on this).
