2010 Freelander 2 TD4 Sport Manual Santorini Black
Clutch or engine management problem ?

My 2010 freelander 2 sport le. Has a fault as follows;

At 70-80mph in 6th gear at 2200 rpm. When the accelerate the revs jump to 2800 rpm with a drop in power before dropping to 2200 then Accelerating.

When I had it serviced in march they said the clutch was ok.
Has anyone experienced this problem?

Any advice before I contact the garage?

Thanks

Are the engine revs actually increasing or is it just the rev counter jumping (i.e. an electrical fault)? If the revs are increasing then my money is on a clutch issue.

If the RPM increases with no noticable increase in road speed, then I would suspect the clutch.
Particulary as it's happening at peak torque. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

The revs are def increasing. I have tried the handbrake test ie holding the car on the handbrake but the revs don't seem to race. I still think its the clutch hopefully someone may have and the same symptoms thanks

When my clutch started to fail, it was in high gear only at 2200 rpm. If I accelerated, the revs began to rise with no increase in road speed. It was more noticable up a slight incline.

New clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder under warranty. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

If the revs rise by nearly 30%, wheels aren't slipping and yet speed stays the same, surely the clutch MUST be slipping? What else could it be? Does it happen in all gears at 2200 revs? Maybe that's when sufficient power is available to overcome the clutch.

Most DMF/clutch problems are more noticable at peak torque, ie accerlating in high gear. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Hi Boof,
Mine went at 26k miles. The dealer didn't quibble one bit; they knew exaclty what was wrong before they pulled it apart. Twas the dreaded dual mass flywheel.

Hope your FL is under warranty; it's big expensive job.
I drove around in mine for over a week before I got it fixed, so you should be okay for now.

Let me know how you get on please Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Hopefully all will go well

Hope it's not just the clutch.
It's the flywheel that's the problem. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I mentioned the flywheel etc. I'll make sure they sort it.
It's not a main dealer but authorised garage. They are very good so hopefully won't have any chew

If your garage fixes it without quibble, you can memtion them on this forum.

I assume then, that you didn't buy your car from a main dealer? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I did buy from main dealer but not to keen on their after care. We have a local authorised repairer 'Team Valley Landrover'
I have had all my servicing done and a couple of warranty claims (seatbelt & trim) by them and I not want to tempt fate but they have been exceptional.

Fingers crossed I'll let you know.
