Wouldn't our i6 friends hear the noise as well then? So far it seems to be limited to the TD4 engine.

I still think its a high pressure pump or some component of the fuel system. Purely because it kicks in as soon as the car is unlocked as if reading the engine to be started.

Something like the solenoid for the steering lock wouldn't need to engage until the key has been inserted. 2007 TD4 SE

LR2 Hissing noise

I have the same problem as mentioned in this forum. As soon as I shut off my 2008 LR2, I hear a hissing noise. It shuts off after a while (I hear a solenoid or relay click)
Any suggestions?

Hi Guys this high pitch sound you hear is the cooler on the turbo i had the same noise on my Audi TT. It stops the turbo from getting damaged after you switch off

I recently was in the workshop of my LR dealer and speaking with the head of the mechanics he told me it is the EGR valve, being prepared in case the engine is eventually started again after it has been switched off.

On the TT its not so much a cooler, but an electric pump that continues to recirculate coolant through the turbo housing after the engine switched off, and this in turn dissipates the heat.

EGR valve

On diesel engines (TD4) the fuel has to be heated to be able to burn (living i a cold country) the EGR valve isnt it the same as a glow plug/heater? Thats what it sounds like to me
