Not Quite an owner..... Tow bar removal?

Hi all Very Happy

11 plate freelander sd4 xs is nearly mine! Yippe! Thumbs Up

However it's currently fitted with the LR fixed tow bar. Not a terrible problem, but not really needed. I believe it is removable Confused But is it easy to do? Will it be noticeable? Will the electrics be difficult to do?

Or do I just leave the tow bar on? As a car went in the back of me earlier this year might protect the car!

Help / advice please!

Kk

but why bother? The towing ball is detachable and fits in the spare wheel well, so the only downside is having the electrics showing on the back (and possible aggro from Chicken George if you trespass into Y***shire).

just knowing the towbar is there would sicken me and make me feel like a part time gypsy. take it off.

chop it into small pieces and then bury them in separate distant locations At work

should be easy to remove, but in some cases the bumper is cut to accommodate the towbar.

Laughing Ok chicken George! In my village the assumption would be that we had a horse and therefore horse box... Which was my daughters suggestion (buy a horse).

The deal we are getting is quite good so it's worth the option of either keeping it on or only partly removing it, if it can't come of without leaving a noticeable hole in the bumper.

It seems it's a bonus to lots of people to have one there..... Not you Chicken George obviously! Wink

Depends which LR bar it is, if it is the Swan Neck or Detachable you can take the towball section off easy enough by the two bolts on the bar, if it's the Flange type towball then the complete bar will have to come off, that's a bumper off job and two to three hours work. Also if it is fitted with the genuine LR electrics you may need to have the electrics programmed back to a non Towbar version as it will confuse the reversing sensors.

buying with a towbar already fitted is not a bonus , the previous owner probably fried the clutch and knackered the suspension towing an unfeesably large caravan.

more sensible to buy a non towbar car then fit one yourself At work

Of course the original owner may have had a Towbar fitted just to fit a bike rack to it, a couple of Raleighs isn't exactly going to do any harm to the suspension or clutch, but then downward pressure of a van is not going to hurt the suspension, more damage could be done to the suspension with driving with a couple of adults in the back, that would put more strain on the suspension than a van, but then what about the brakes, like the Censored of a farmer who pulled out in front of me last week on a roundabout, little Massey with a Censored great trailer with trailer of grain, I didn't exactly have to brake, more of through the deadman and stop. Censored stop, he couldn't stop as he was going to fast, he tried then thought Censored and kept going Censored
