A question....

The ECO start stop function......does it cut emmissions, save fuel or both?

Or does all the starting and stopping actually lower fuel consumption?

Best wishes

Chris

The idea is that it saves fuel by cutting the engine in traffic and consequentially the engine is not kicking out fumes and so less pollution. That's why you pay less road tax.

It does save fuel and the started motor is heavy duty to cope with the stop/start business. There are certain conditions when it won't work:

1. Until the engine has warmed up at least a small amount
2. When the temp gets below something like 4C
3. With one of the TR special modes activated - For obvious reasons and justifiably so
4. With the heater on max
5. With the air con on coldest temp

There might be more but I get plenty of use out of it going to and from work Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

turbo diesel engines don't like being switched on and off constantly.

so I always switch off my eco stop start on every trip.

LR installed the heavy duty starter motor to fend off such concerns in theory. Never had any problems with it. Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

its not the starter motor that iain is reffering to more the turbo and its oil supply, I would hesitate to rev the engine and get the turbo spinning if there is a chance that the engine will then stop at the next lights. At work

A proper stop start system consists of a machine directly on the end of the crankshaft. This machine does both starter and alternator functions and spin the engine to around 800 rpm thus avoiding the need for EMS to adjust the mixture to attain normal tickover speed. FL2 uses a normal stater motor which will spin the engine typically to 200/300 rpm and therefore does not offer the emission/fuel savings of a 'starternator' machine. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Just imagine having a house in a town near to traffic lights and every car that stops outside has to restart before before moving off, that would get on your tits big time, several thousand cars an hour starting up outside your window. I bet no one in the government would put up with it. Rolling Eyes

Stop start with the machine on the end of the crank is uncanily quiet. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Thanks for your replies......I am taking these as there is no detriment to enconomy when used and reduced emissions due to the engin being off when usually on.
