UHF Antenna Mounting

I've been trying to find a suitable place to mount a UHF antenna without drilling a hole in the roof. I haven't got a pack rack or bullbar and as the bonnet wraps over the outside of the engine bay, the normal range of mounting brackets aren't much good.

I'd be interested to know how other people have gotten around the problem. A picture or two would help a lot.

Thanks for your reply, Mudslinger. Sounds like you have it sorted and I'd like to see a pix. I'm trying to fit a 2m/70cm on one side and a UHF CB on the other. Pity they can't be combined in one rig, but that's a big NO! NO! down under.

Thanks for the pics. The hatch mount looks like it might work for me and there is a similar looking bracket available locally. I'l look into it.

hope these help

Had to modify mine to stop it catching the roof, had to loose one grub screw, mark twice cut once .!!

my mount was a diamond k400 mount (never had a problem with it even on 3 screws(done up tight though..!)
might be able to source locally cheaper (ff-fbay)

sorry if double posting still learning about "albums"...

Your hatch mount looks very similar to a locally available 'Nagoya' mount which I tracked down and will probably use. I'll post some pictures of the ant and the rig installation when finished. Looks like I'll be using an Icom IC-208 for the initial 2m/70cm rig and possibly an IC-440 for UHF CB. You don't have UHF CB in UK do you, is it just 27MHz?

Thanks again for the pics, they were very helpful as I hadn't considered that approach. 2007 FL2 TD4 SE Auto, Alaska White with Black Leather, Cooper A/T3 tyres.

See here for UK frequencies....

Also I think we now have SSB on 27MHz

I'll stick to the ham frequencies, they're more fun Thumbs Up ______________________

Too true! However, I sometimes go on 4WD trips with a club and they insist that you have a uhf CB. Not Many 4WDers here who are also Hams, unfortunately. 2007 FL2 TD4 SE Auto, Alaska White with Black Leather, Cooper A/T3 tyres.
