The family in over Tasmania have a G wagen, unbreakable, one heck of a tough vehicle, a little utilitarian for some but well worth it. Thumbs Up

Unbreakable - Not around here. Shocked
Chap in our village has one (no idea of MY) but his G wagen, which I understand he's had from new, has according to village gossip spent more time in the Merc dealer's service bay than doing any regular motoring.

On a slightly different note - when we moved into the village most of the farmer's ran Toyota or Suzuki 4x4 with the one exception the G Wagen and a couple of Td5 Defenders. How things have changed in a few short years.

Now LR Defenders are in the majority on the surrounding farms, and her Ladyship's FL2 was the first, but now there's 3 more FL2's in domestic use. And the father of a friend of my daughter at school has just taken delivery of a new 110 Defender fully rigged with expedition kit and of course enough seats to carry his wife and 5 kids - and he's a German. I'll have to ask him why he didn't buy a new G Wagen Question

That is because Land Rover do not build them to last that amount of miles!
Any of mine that hit 100k start costing dearly each month to keep on the road thereafter.
Admittedly they do work for a living, but then the G wagen does not look like it is a sunday outing car?
Although I did have G wagen once and it was a killer when buying parts.

Agree. 100k seems to be the threshold, after which the rusty pipes, worn out electrics, corroded rads etc start to get annoying (and costly). The German bloke with the Gay-Wagen (that's how it's pronounced) seems to have avoided salty roads, and admits he drives like a granny. So long as he's changed his filters (and added plenty of 2-stroke) he probably doesn't have too much to worry about.
