After shopping around for new tyres for Lloyd, I decided to replace like for like.
Searched the local tyre retailers and the best deal was kwik fit £530 for three Pirelli scorpion zeros.
They tried to sell me nitrogen and charge me for fitting my full sized alloy spare! I said I'd rather fit the spare myself as I'm not frightened of breaking a nail.
They did a good job of fitting them but the wheel balancing machine was broken so I have to go back on Saturday to get the wheels balanced... Bit of a nuisance...However, they fitted my spare FOC.

Mine was serviced yesterday, 31,000 miles, 5mm left all round on my Pirelli Scorpions, fortunately have 4 new ones (1000 miles on) stored in garage courtesy of Mike46 on here, £350 so a bit of a saving.

Strange though that they also measured the brand new spare and it comes out at 20% worn on the computer printout

Iain- 23,000, on road, on grass a bit and on lots of rocky roads. 3mm all round! Pretty much equal wear front to back. Would have like to have squeezed another few thousand miles out of them. However, large chunk of glass in LHS front & deep tear between treads on LHS rear.

Dave- yeah nitrogen snake oil... Hahaha. The guy at KF said he has it in his caravan tyres too!

A couple of problems with this......

1. If your tyres loose pressure and need to be topped up you are kind of stuffed if you can't find an outlet with pure nitrogen to top the tyres up with therefore relying on an air compressor which is a waste of having the nitrogen done in the first place.

2. To do it properly so that it was only pure nitrogen in your tyre the preocess would need to be carried out in a vacuum to ensure no contamination from normal air which isn't the ideal environment for the tyre fitter due to suffocation

3. Corrosion is not a problem as the only part of the rim that normally rusts is the outer edge that the tyre sits on which is rarely exposed to the moisture inside a tyre anyway.

4. There are no compelling reasons to use it, even the leading motoring organisations say that as there is nothing to be gained from it by the average motorist and you certainly won't recoup the money spent.

There are pros and cons for a lot of things but the is one of the biggest cons going. ______________________

I have been for years now, even get the pressures checked and topped up with nitrogen again.
