the insurance are cheeky though cg especially if its a heated screen ! lol When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car |

Insurers don't normally treat windscreen claims like other damage claims and don't reduce your no claims bonus. 2013 RR Evoque Pure Tech

Had the window replaced on my Mini a few months ago and it didn’t affect my no claims and believe as others have said that this is the norm. I would check your policy to be sure though.

While replacement windscreens have not previously afftected NCB's, I have recently found (when completing online insurance applications) that insurance companies are now asking for your previous claims history including windscreen replacement and even repair. |

Hmmm... I had a screen (heated) replaced last year under the insurance (£50 excess) and was told by Autoglass the screen itself only cost around £150 which surprised both myself and the fitter!

Tiger has hit the nail on the head as I was trying to avoid a claim knowing ALL claims have to be reported when moving insurers, however they confirm my NCB not affected so long as I stay insured with them. So much for shopping around at renewal to get a better quote then! Thanks for the input guys.Xtd5 |

Funny... I went yesterday to get a quote to change the heated/rain sensored winshield on mine and had a quote of 875 canadian dollar. Roughly 535 british pound. I thought that parts were cheaper on the other side of the ocean. 1973 Land Rover Series 3 88''

So, if I'm reading this correctly, you would prefer to pay £1100 for a new windscreen rather than fill out details for new insurance which might or might not increase your premium

No, my original post was expressing shock at the £1100 quote which I thought extortionate! I was asking if anyone knew of a better source as I would like to avoid a claim without paying so much. When you change insurer you do have to declare all claims which may or may not affect a quote. As I am trying to rebuild a no claims bonus I don't want to claim if I can help it. I have found a quote now for a new windscreen fitted for £216 which I shall take, as my excess is £150 anyway. £66 to help protect my NCB is a simple solution for me in my circumstances that shows it's worth shopping around! |
