has anyone ever fitted 255 55 18 to 235 60 18 FL2 wheels

I am looking for some off road tyres, and the grabber AT2 is supposed to be good.
however it does not come in 235 60 18 - the standard size on my XS
but does come in 255 55 18.
I assume this tyre is a wider, but the profile is the same so my speedo should not be affected.

My questions is : has anyone ever fitted these tyres on standard LR rims, and are they acceptable ?

thanks

Generally I believe you can oversize width by up to 20mm without a problem.
It shouldn't affect your speedo either.

But that's not really an answer to the question, sorry! 2008 FL2 TD4 XS Zermatt Silver, Manual

thanks, good to know, and confirm my thoughts.

I will either buy these or the wrangler AT-R.

price will dictate at this time, as reviews for both seem ok.

Having said that, the profile height (60) is a percentage so I would have thought that would need to change too - 55 seems like a better choice for 255/18.
Again I could be wrong.

http://www.etyres.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator.htm - 255/55/18 is a difference of -1mm but 255/60/18 would be a difference of 24mm. 2008 FL2 TD4 XS Zermatt Silver, Manual

agreed, I understand the math now.
255 55 is the best choice Smile

I spoke to LR about this last week as mine is still under warranty. The result was what I expected - they don't approve that size and if there were any warranty claims it could be a problem.

Maybe out of warranty I will think again about the General Grabbers.

Although I could fit the GG UHP - they worked OK on my FL1.

I would be interested to know how you get on with the General Grabbers.

Have you let your insurance company know? If so, what was there response?

Cheers Thumbs Up

Good point on insurance, meant to say that. Although last time I phoned and told them about various tyre options and what I was planning it got completely dismissed.
I'm guessing if the load and speed ratings are correct then as long as they are within 20mm you should be ok. 2008 FL2 TD4 XS Zermatt Silver, Manual

Just searching for tyre choice info as we probably all do.

I am wondering if you went the GG UHP's or choose something else?

If you went for the GG UHP's, how have you found them to be?
In particular, in the wet and in the recent snow?

My Pirelli Scorpion Zeros are nearing end of life and I am looking for a suitable replacement.
I have no confidence in these in the snow, even a light dusting recently had me 'bricking' it!

I have searched, and read, and searched and read again and think GG UHP's are my tyre of choice (at the moment anyway).

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Regards
ATHRoss

I fitted the grabber at, in 255 55 18.
Looked fantastic, great tyres on grass n mud. Terrible on the road.

Now have ultratrac winter tyres. Amazing.
