The OEM Pirelli Scorpions on mine are M+S rated. I seem to recall reading on here though that there is no specific standard or requirement to be able to mark a tyre M+S so it doesn't necessarily mean much. I did one 20 mile drive in the light snow we had last winter and the tyres seemed fine, but I don't have much experience of snow driving or 'specialist' tyres so can't comment much further. They got me there in one piece when driving sensibly but not over cautiously. I think perhaps the question you need to ask, or information others can base a reply on is what conditions are you expecting the tyres to cope with. Wet winter roads, the Scorpions are OK, not the best tyre I've had in the wet, but copes reasonably well with my speed and driving style in the FL2 (slower and gentler than with previous cars). Would an M+S tyre cope in deep virgin snow, I couldn't say, and as already indicated, you'd probably need to get other's first hand experience to judge rather than go my manufacturer's reputation etc. When I contacted forum sponsor AJS about winter tyres I was given the honest advice that with the recent winters we've had, with cautious driving the Scorpions would have been fine. |

I have Continental Cross Contacts on mine, also rated as M+S could be something to do with the shop as it can't be anything to do with their capabilities only use them for summer come winter the Vredesteins come out to play.

I only intend the tyres to cope with the normal UK winter. So I would say cold wet roads most of the time although the ability to easily cope with a couple of inches of snow would be beneficial.

All the cars at the LandRover Experience are on standard for the showroom tyres, they are brilliant in mud , wet and 99% of the conditions you will use your car in, yes winter tyres offer shorter braking etc, but you can leave extra distance and save yourself £700 unless of course you need new tyres anyway 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Well I was of the view of sticking with M+S tyres (despite acknowledging the clear advantages and safety of winter tyres) as they never let me down except for some minor wheel spin when setting off from a standstill on a hill in snow (GGS mode on).
