Heat can cause connections to expand and break contact, when the car cools it may come back on, his would indicate a dodgy connector, sometimes simply undoing/redoing the connectors can clean them.

It's the whole screen. It came back for a while this morning but was playing up again as I got to work. Might have to have a look behind it and check connections. Thanks for your help, much appreciated. 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey with full HST styling. |

Opened up the dash and accessed the rear of the nav unit this morning. All plugs and wires are in the place they should be. Wiggling the wires has no effect on the random interference on the screen. I accessed the hidden codes but display check shows no errors. Now I am stumped! 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey with full HST styling. |

My friend has to switch off his wifi on his mobile phone or it interfers with the screen in his car, everything worked OK just could not see the screen for static/interferance.

Here's an update.....Dealer stripped down the dash and tested the screen on another car. same problem. A screen from another Freelander worked fine in my car. So it's the screen that's faulty. Cost to replace..... £851.00!!!!!! 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey with full HST styling. |

I'll give the breakers and eBay a shot. Annoyingly, there was one on eBay for £180 last week, but gone now! I'm going to attempt to open up the screen unit to check for a loose wire or something obvious - nothing to lose I suppose! 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey with full HST styling. |

Here's a thought....Jaguar and Landrover are the same company......they MUST share some components. So I googled this and sure enough the Freelander borrows the sat nav screen from the XF. I've found two or three for sale online for £200 so tomorrow I'll contact th dealers, who handily share the showroom with the Jaguar showroom, and ask them to confirm if the screens are interchangeable between marques. Fingers crossed... 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey with full HST styling. |

The Dealer won't confirm or deny that the screen from a Jaguar will function. He mentioned that the splash screen will probably always show the Jaguar logo on start up and there may be a software communication issue. 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey with full HST styling. |

Sounds like guff from the dealer, a screen is a screen, it displays what the control unit tells it to IMHO. |
