It was driving quite well, unless you seriously think two seven stone farmhands are actually pushing a two ton car across a muddy field with apparent ease.

Why was it not a good show?

They weren't pushing, they were going through the motions and were walking behind with their grubby hands on the back window. He had traction, see how quick he stopped when told.
Farmers and their mud, should have hardcored the main run in, tightwads

no sunroof so could have been the basic 'S' model with no TR system

More likely inexperienced driver who rev'ed away on slick summer tyres full of mud

but think the farm hand were just there as driver security, not actually doing too much pushing

Has a Sat Nav antenna and a spoiler, wheels look fancy too.
Definately not in GGS mode though, too much wheel slip.

park on the road then if you can find a space , you want farmers to permanently pave the countryside so visitors can visit without the chance that heavy June rain will cause mud. environmental hero

The LR experience day guy told me that wet grass/light mud is one of the worst surfaces to drive on if not the worst. Better tyres would help but perhaps the zig zag approach to steering as seen on the LR day would help LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

So, what would be the shout here guys GGS or Mud n Ruts in that situation?
GGS makes the car more sensitive to wheelspin whereas in Mud n Ruts the DSC is given more allowance so individual wheels won't be braked if zig zagging.
Or would you turn off DSC completely? like is beneficial in deep snow at times.

yes rev the nuts off it, dig through the slippy surface, throwing mud back does actually propel you forwards. then once you get moving your laughing, dont stop for nobody

Once a street tire is "loaded" with mud, it becomes a slick tire.
Spinning the wheels (power, as landy said) helps unloading the mud, but this, in combination with street tires, isn't quite efficient. Not even for all terrain tires.
Neither zig-zaging is efficient because a mud loaded tire (slick tire) doesn't have grip anymore...
All these procedures (spinning and zig-zaging) are true for a proper mud tire, like the Simex tires/profile because with this profile you can properly unload the mud and dig through it.

Many times, with street tires, I've managed to get out of this kind of situations trying to not break adherence.
GGS, manual shift, 2nd gear and very very slowly/light on the throttle.
If it's not working, then yes, like George said, spin a lot, with DSC OFF.
