removing roof rack on FL2

HI,Just joined the forum after buying a 2008 fl2 HSE ...so far found it very helpful for changing front grille to hst style and fixing the tailgate release switch however i am now looking for advise concerning the roof rails.....i have removed these today and found that underneath the rack at the front are two locating pins that stick up past the roof .these look like they are bolted in??just wondered if anyone knows if the lining has to be removed to remove them?? or if there is a cover of some kind??? any help would be apreciated....cheers

Until some one else who knows a bit more, you can have a look at the fitting instructions on the topix www, might get a few pointers off that.

I think the freelander 2 is one of the only 4x4s which look worse with roof rails, normally I like them, but not on FL2 Big Cry

Totally agree with you, think it makes it look to much like the x-trail and that is why they are gone.only had the car 2 weeks and already painted the wing vents, replaced the front grille for the hst style and ordered clear side repeaters and now removed the roof bars, can honestly say looks loads better.

Did you have to take hacksaw the remove the old grille? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Not sure about the vents, maybe the change of lens will help Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

yeh clear ones are on the way, cant really tell from the photos but the side grilles are done in the same colour as the bonnet badges, makes a huge difference from silver when you see them side by side think it all blends in better......get that grille on..you wont regret it Very Happy

I bought an HSE in same colour as you 3 weeks ago (from Aberdeen) I've fitted genuine side-steps and mud flaps, and the new rear spioler is away at pait-shop now. Really like the black vents, reminds me of a range rover sport somehow? I see from your website you remove dents, I have a slight dent (from someones door, very slight, but its there!!) Are you ever in Argyll? Or Glasgow?

no i cover aberdeen to dundee but if your planning a trip in the area in the near future i could meet you and remove it for you, regarding charges i usually charge £75 per panel for removing dents but to anyone here it will be £50 no vat.....if you want to just get a local repair i can recommend a company in glasgow or edinburgh, dont let just anyone touch it cus if they make a mess then your only option is to paint it and believe me there is people out there doing this that really shouldnt....hope this helps ...would be interested in seeing what it looks like with the side steps.

I think you will find that you have to remove the studded bolt you refer to,at the front, and replace with the original bolt. You will also need to replace the plastic rail channel trims which will have 24mm? holes cut in them for the rail fixings. If it helps, I have two of the original bolts you can have.

How are those plastic trims fitted? The front offside of mine (no roof rails) is coming off at the front where it meets the windscreen, but I can't see anything to hold it on. Do I just glue it down? I only noticed it because the rubber strip was starting to flap about.
