Had a play in a D4 at Rockingham last week, have to say its very roomy and handled the mud well, BUT still prefer the Freelander as it does everything the D$ did without the complicated setting up needed in D4, and its a lot cheaper!  2012 MY TD4 SX Manual in very rare Buckingham Blue!

complicated? lift the suspension and go job done, when finished off road just speed up and the suspension reverts to normal height.
or if its very rough going press the low range button with one finger At work

I was lucky enough to borrow a D4 for the weekend and absolutely loved it I would swap the Freelander in a heartbeat, but I'd probably end up regretting it; I would miss the fuel economy (what there is of it!) and it was a pain in the b*m to park in comparison to the Freelander.

The Disco is very, very nice, but it's just not as practical in day to day use as the Freelander

I have had a few LR's - The FL2 was my favourite

I have had my first bad Lr in the guise of a RRS and as it is basically a D4 hybrid that puts me off both now

I always felt the full fat was overpriced and for when I got old but having a 4.4 tdv8 vogue loaner for 5 days I am astounded

30-32 mpg and 0-60 in 7.5 seconds - I only got 34 when I had the FL2

I have concluded new FL2 or used tdv8 is my preference now

I have done Lr experience's in every Lr except evoque and they are all amazing offroad but they weren't mine  Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Dunroof I thought the RR was boring but 0-60 in 7.5 seconds and better fuel consumption than my sport has changed my mind

Well I agree that the FL2 is better to live with than the D4.
Some fool backed into my Landcruiser V8 i use for work and DIRECT LINE the third parties insurer messed me about with the claim even though it was there fault and finally provided me with a D4 for towing stuff I usually use the Toyota for.
As a machine it is the most amazing thing. Goes like hell, can do very good MPG and plenty of room inside. I hate the twisty gear knob thing, much prefer a proper gear stick.
I really do not like the power delivery when coming up to a junction, see its clear and accelerate away. It thinks dithers and then whallop goes like hell. Like nothing I have used before! Perhaps its because I am used to petrol power? But a D3 I hired before was similar and I was driving a Td5 discovery then, so used to turbo lag!
I intend to keep the Fl2 for a few more years, unless it decides to start costing a fortune in parts to keep on the road like any other land rover I have had which is four years old and getting older!
If I could afford it would change both for a 5.0 V8 supercharged Range Rover.

The instructors on my experience day last week said they had sen the 2013 Freelander on a factory trip, and although they wouldn't go into detail, they did say it was hard to tell any difference.
