Our local Sainsbury's is selling super unleaded at 3p a litre more than unleaded. as opposed to the normal 6p-7p price difference. Has anyone with an i6 tried super-unleaded and noticed any better consumption please? And does anyone have any info on non-branded super-unleaded vs the likes of BP and Shell? I always try and use Shell or Tesco super-unleaded in my proper, non-BMW Mini Cooper S on the advice of the engine tuner. Cheers, DT

You will find slightly better fuel consumption because the octane rating is higher, meaning you get mork work done for the same amount of fuel used over 95 RON.....more performance possible and when driven exactly the same as before reduced fuel consumption.

Not only that it will run cleaner and keep your engine (in the very long run) cleaner internally. Will you see your higher fuel economy return your money......probably not.

In performance vehicles they alway suggest using teh highest octane rating fuel available as it makes the most of the the engine tuning and reduces the requirement of the engine mapping to make adjustments to prevent knocking etc.

You can go better with Shell Optimax which is 98 RON, so even better, and when in Germany you can get 99 or 100 RON Optimax....meaning more power.

If you are using unleaded 95 RON then I would sugegst switching over to Shell Optimax for a better comparison.

Non-branded fuel.........basically there is no such thing. There are only a handful (in terms of the size of the world and the oil business) of refining facilities, all of which are operated by the major names in the oil business. So quite simply when you buy from Tesco, you are buying from BP, Shell, Mobil or whichever Tesco uses as their supplier.

The only places to avoid are small pump stations which have relatively infrequent use, as although the fuel delivered to them is the same as Tesco (example) the condition of the tanks which they store it in are not in some cases and have known of cases of water and debris contamination from these type of places.
