Falling mpg

Average mpg on my manual TD4 has fallen from around 32 typical to more like 26. Can't believe this is all due to my roof rails/thule bars. I had a raft of software updates to fix various things and mpg seems to have got worse since then.

Car is going in for first service in a couple of weeks so worth mentioning?

Cheers,
Gareth

rubbish mpg

Yes, that's a rubbish mpg, especially for a manual TD4!

I've never had an average of less than 29mpg in my TD4 Auto. Mine does seem to be significantly imapced by cold starts, short trips and town/city driving, but my current averrage is 31.5 mpg, despite this recent cold snap!

I average between 29 - 32 mpg driving around town.

With the wife driving it to her work which is only a short distance of about 2.5 miles the mpg has dropped to 26 - 28 mpg.....

Done nearly 8000 miles now, have another long trip coming up and the end of March, will see if the mpg will improve on a long run. ______________________

ok - so my 22mpg is not right then?
The Mrs with her heavy right foot, driving normally 1-2 miles stop/start (down to the stables, up to Sainsburys etc). I must admit I wasn't impressed, the merc manages 25 at worst and the jeep tended to read 25 ish most of the time. It's done 18k so I'm ruling out running in, but she runs well so I'm not convinced we have a fault either.
Ideas? 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!

I'm getting 26-28mpg in my TD4 auto, after 3000 miles. Thats mostly quiet motorway driving, tend to set the cruise to 80mph Whistle

Is this from the computer or fill-up to fill-up checking. I reported some time ago that my computer under-reads by a considerable amount (40 mpg between fill-ups with computer showing 34)

Ooo, I get about 41 driving carefully and 36 when hammering down the motorway (cruse control set to 80). I got about 6.5k miles on the clock and carrying 2 others at the same time so yea your 22 sounds real low.

You are using all the gears arent you Shocked . No seriously, if I sit in 5th at 75 I will loose about 4 mpg easy. I like to keep it at about 1.5k rpm and it pulls easy and quiet too.

41mpg? I have never reached that other than the first couple of miles following a reset. Prior to my first service and the software upgrade I was showing, at best, 36 mpg.

Since - I hover at 32-33 but if i really try; I get 34. I have a mixed urban and motorway mileage ( 1.4k per month) and seem to gain at motorway speeds of 70 -80. Contrary to manufacturer claims Yawn

(It's a TD4 and I don't ramp it - unless, of course, the road is open and Wogan is playing Meat Loaf) Firenze Red XS TD4 01/2013 . Averaging 1800 miles per month. My 5th Freelander in 11 years. Devotee?
