Removing door strips

Hi all,

Does anyone know how easy it is to remove the black bump strip that run thru the centre of the doors. I dont actually have my car yet but it has these filled and think it might look nicer and cleaner with them removed. Are they simply glued on or are they screwed in place ?

They are stuck on with very sticky 3M tape.

I beleive this is a dealer fit option, so would only be fitted once they take delivery from LR

You should be able to tell them that you no longer want them fitting

I'm keeping my eye open for a set myself as they do protect the clean lines from Censored in carparks

check first

Dannyboy ..... I should check with the dealer first if they are already fitted. I didn't have them as an option, then asked my dealer about fitting them afterwards. He suggested that this was a little more than just sticking them on, and that they keyed surface first. If this is true, taking them off once fitted could be a a bad move!! Yep, dealer fit so just give them a ring and if they haven't got your car yet no probs.

Thanks will check - the car I am buying is an ex-demo and already has them fitted. I just prefer the look of them without but as with my other post with regards painting the side skirts I am just sure that once I took them off some Censored will park to close or something and ding the door.

I will have a look when I pick the car up on Saturday.

I have already bought my clear side indicators from ebay, the black and silver front, back and wheels hub badges from the dealer and the balck and silver badges from mudstuff.co.uk for the c pillars. Just need the car now Very Happy

Hi Dannyboy

I am thinking about buying a Freelander 2 and like you I don't like the side protection. I think it will only protect the side in limited situations, i.e. when the offender’s door lines up with the protection strip. Since dent removal by my local ding man is only £30 per panel, provided he is in the area, I can't see it being an economical choice to have them fitted, unless you like the look. Keying the panel before fitting is probably just a case of using panel clean before sticking them on; this just removes the polish so the adhesive has a chance to stick on the paint, not the polish.

I used the word ‘offender’ wisely since putting a park dent in another car is an offence, and one the police will assist you with. I have successfully gained insurance details and eventually payment, from such an incident, when a driver just drove off.

Chris.

I hope the payment you received was something suitable....like one of the offenders fingers or maybe a testicle.

Only in the pocket and she used her insurance company for a very small amount in my option, but she will be reminded of it each year at renewal time Wink

If her attitude would have been different at the time I might have let her off with a sorry, she was very rude infront of my kids using Censored words
