Servicing costs

Just been quoted £299 for a 12-month service at Carrs Land Rover in Truro. I bought the car from them six months ago as an approved used, with the last service showing six months prior to that at 50,000 miles (recorded as the 60k service). The car has only done just over 4,000 miles since then.

This seems to be a lot of money for a "short" service, although there is a loand car provided and they throw in a free hoover and wash, plus a Land Rover Experience voucher. They charge £100 more for the more major service it will need next year.

What do you think? Is this typical main agent pricing? Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto
Tricia's - 2006 Royal Blue Beetle Cabriolet Auto
Mine - 2014 Vespa GTS 300 Super Sport Matt Black
Ours - 2007 White Bailey Pageant Champagne

In a nutshell yes. The service is time based "12 months and 15000 miles which ever comes first ".

Just had my 5 year service -£444. Has anyone with one of the first FL2 had the six year service yet? Am I right in thinking they change all the flexible hoses? Never come across that before although to be fair I genuinely change my cars at year 4. Also found out I'd gone through 45% of my rear brake pads in a year which is not good!! I live in a hilly area but didn't think I was overly heavy on my brakes. What sort of mileage are people getting on a set of pads (mainly non-motorway???).

Changed pads for first time @ 35K miles. Not very hilly in this part of Warwickshire.

The dealer network are really having a laugh with the prices they charge. The attached shows that the vast majority of the work is JUST inspection work. I am going to use my local service guy as the car is now 3 years old. He has a good reputation and being part of a small community keen to do a good job lest he loses it. Saving about £200.

Whilst on a rant LR can stick their extended warranty as well. £500odd to cover 1 year EXCLUDING wear and tear which would presumably include clutch and DMF Rolling with laughter

ALWAYS haggle! Full stop!

JLR Service departments have the authority to knock 15% off the price of a service, with another 5% at the discretion of the Service Manager.

go to a LR specialist, you generally find that they do it because the like LRs and more often as not own one themselves in short they care and are often on here checking on things, Valhalla? and they use genuine LR parts and are between 30 & 60% cheaper, to the people at the dealers it's just a job with guarenteed custom of course this is just generalising and we all know that there are exceptions to this.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Every person who works for Strathearn Engineering owns a Land Rover, and has a great passion for the brand. From the (female) accountant who owns a Series 3, to the apprentice with a 300tdi Defender

It's a Land Rover thing, you can't really explain it! And I imagine most independent specialists, regardless of the brand would be the same Strathearn Engineering

buy ur own parts genuine if still under warranty and haggle at the labour price or play one dealer off to another its simple they need the work at the dealer Thumbs Up

ps you don't have to use a main dealer under block exemption if ur car is under warranty but you must use genuine parts and the garage must be vat registered but please bear in mind the if you have a warranty claim outside the warranty period it may not be looked at sympathetically by land rover if the car does not have a full dealer service record. rainy-city

Harwood Edenbridge charged me £399.32 for the first service on my SD4 HSE, 12 months on with 11,200 miles on it at the time of service. Included 2 new wiper blades and refitting the nighbreaker bulbs which I hadn't seated properly (which they could have refused to do as I'd made a mess of it). Car washed and taken back to my house. Their usual excellent service - no I don't work for them and I have had reason to give them the sharp side of my tongue in the past.

To me this is good value for what is quite a complex car and it keeps it on the right side of the tech. bulletin updates. Lets face it anything which costs over £30K is not going to be serviced for £99. On my Cooper S Works the service was 'free' under the TLC deal, but the invoice came in to £800 with all the bits and bobs added - and boy those BMW service boys know how to add things; this on a low mileage, carefully maintained car. You just have to accept that once a year a dealer is going to empty your wallet for a service, which the vast majority of us don't have the time, skill or equipment to do ourselves.

MINI charge £110 and hour labour, so it soon mounts up, wonder if the 1/2 hour teabreak is included? £55? for the cream cakes and crumpet?
Ive got a JCW MINI too, makes a nice change to driving the very slow and lumbering FL2. Thumbs Up
Maybe it time we all learnt to service our own cars again like they did in the old days? just need a plug in computer diagnostic and Bobs your uncle, and if youve got Voice recognition the car probably tells you what wrong too Very Happy
